Fifteen Years of Willow's Web Astrology Blog! Transitioning from a Pluto in Capricorn-Era Vehicle to a Pluto in Aquarius-Era Vehicle

Today is the 15-year anniversary of the Willow's Web Astrology blog. I made it! We made it!

I started the WWA blog on February 25, 2008 with Pluto newly in Capricorn, and this has very much been a Pluto in Capricorn-era blog. Along with the astrological interpretations, I've worked to expose corruption (Pluto) in multiple industries and institutions (Capricorn) and to educate people on how to protect themselves and their loved ones through increased Plutonic awareness.

Now, Pluto is poised to enter Aquarius on March 23, 2023 for a transit that will stretch until 2044, and things start to shift. Willow's Web Astrology transforms from a vehicle for Pluto in Capricorn work into a vehicle for Pluto in Aquarius work. (Though Pluto doesn't leave Capricorn entirely until late 2024...) I'm not sure what this transition will look like exactly, but I'm ready for the next chapter, whatever it brings.

This year will be a light duty year on the blog - the first light duty year I've taken in 15 years. The past three years on Planet Earth have taken a lot out of us. I've done a tremendous amount of unpaid and energy-intensive work during this time, including ongoing research, writing, activism, protest, public education, and lobbying of City Halls on more than one issue. All this has left me at an energy deficit, so this year, I'll be rebuilding my reserves on that front.

My priority and focus moving forward will be on paid work - the patron articles and astrology readings, tutoring, and lessons. I'll post new articles to the public blog if energy allows, but I don't imagine I'll be moving back into doing extensive unpaid work from this point on.

You can also find me through my website: Willow's Web Astrology

This is an excerpt from my second-ever post on the blog, published on February 26, 2008. Not to toot my own horn, but I would say I nailed it right out of the Pluto in Capricorn gate!

Willow's February 2008 Astro Perspective - with Pluto in Capricorn

"PLUTO IN CAPRICORN: January 26, 2008 - November 20, 2024

Pluto fuels a process of intense examination and scrutiny of the aspects of life we would often rather not look at. All the dark creepy crawlies we’d prefer would just stay hidden under the rug - the dark undercurrents of life, ourselves and other people; denied emotional realities; abusive, unequal relationship dynamics; things we repress that then come out in our lives and selves in a multitude of unpleasant ways; power struggles; control issues; hidden motivations; betrayals; emotional suppression and poisoning; oppression; domination and subjugation; lack of personal integrity; behaviours and circumstances that result from disconnection to the core, soul-level reality; etc. All that fun stuff that we all love dealing with!

Pluto knows that these things go on under the surface and it also knows that until we recognize these aspects and bring them up to conscious awareness, we’re doomed to repeat unpleasant karmic cycles and patterns. Pluto gets us to do this by making life so uncomfortable and hellish and oppressing us so horribly that we’re forced to look at this stuff, examine it, release the old and make changes because we would literally rather die than continue the way things are. Or, rather, Pluto knows we WILL die (at least, on a soul-level) if we continue the way things are - hence the “evolve or die” thing.

Pluto’s location indicates the area that needs most desperately to transition and be reborn into something new. So while Pluto is in Capricorn, we’re going to be forced to look at our concepts of material progress and success and all the structures that have grown out of those concepts, transforming those things to better fit our continued life on the planet.

As far as the transpersonal view goes, Pluto in Capricorn will be a time when the Plutonic process is applied to things such as: business and corporations and the hierarchical structures within them; “bosses;” owners; management; time; money; economics; material goals and progress; patriarchy; use of power by those at the top; the aspects of control and power that money and position afford; public image; what our societies respect, recognize and deem worthy; leadership and the legitimacy of that leadership; concepts of success; climbing the corporate ladder and where that ladder is leading us; etc.

In my view, the masculine and feminine energies on the planet are currently unbalanced and unequal to the point of collapse. And nowhere is this more apparent than in our business structures, with the prevailing ideology of growth and achievement at all cost and a seeming lack of concern about negative effects on the environment, the populace and the basic overall soul of things. To me, we’ve gone as far as we can go with the current system of unfettered growth (to the point of almost destroying our planet), and now we desperately need some balance. We need to inject some soul into our structures. We need to balance outward achievement with inner reflection and guidance. We need to care about how our actions and “progress” affect other people and the planet. We need to make sure that the ways we’re striving to be recognized and respected in the public world feel right to us in our inner world. This relates to the balance of Cancer and Capricorn. During a Pluto transit through a sign, development of the sign opposite Pluto is crucial to sort of pull us out of the muck and mire that Pluto kicks up and create some balance. Capricorn rules the Father figure energy (masculine) and Cancer rules the Mother figure energy (feminine). Capricorn rules the outwardly visible public self and Cancer rules the inner, soul self. So to me, Pluto in Capricorn is very clearly a time when the disconnect between these things must be addressed. Masculine and feminine must come into balance. They must learn to work together as equally important forces, each playing a complementary role and becoming one force of creation, instead of two separate forces resisting each other and fighting for dominance.

One of the things a birth chart illustrates beautifully is the fact that we all have masculine energy and feminine energy within us. There are six yin signs and six yang signs that we all, men and women, contain. A mistake that we make in our society is to equate feminine with women and masculine with men. So adding women to a corporate boardroom is often considered enough to address the imbalance of masculine and feminine. This is, of course, not true because women can behave in a very masculine way, especially when they’re trying to fit in and succeed in an excessively masculine structure.

So we need to transform (Pluto) the way we understand the interplay of masculine and feminine, outer and inner (Capricorn - Cancer). And see how denying the existence or the importance of the feminine or yin energy in our work and business structures is creating a problematic imbalance in our society.

Addressing and rebalancing these issues through Pluto in Capricorn will, hopefully, change the lifestyle track that people are running on of go, go, go!, "I'm so busy," tossing down three Starbucks a day to keep going, cocaine sniffing (yes, business people have resorted to that, apparently), body in a constant state of alert/panic, constant growth, constant focus on outward results, goals!, achievements!, recognition!, outpacing the other guy/gal, etc.

Along with that, the way all this is artificially supported by a controlled and invisible form of feminine, which exists only to support this mad machine, will also transform. An example of this is the receptionist or admin assistants in the business structure, who support what other people are doing but usually have no real independent roles of their own.

This Plutonic transformation will also renew our respect for and understanding of growth cycles - the fact that creation involves outward growth, but also rest, dormancy and connection to the inner for guidance. The fact that the human body is not a machine, and it cannot just produce, produce, produce. Energy levels fluctuate. There is a timing of things.

These are some of the things which will come up during Pluto in Capricorn and not in a superficial way! Pluto asks for nothing less than complete transformation from the core. No stone is left unturned. So Pluto will be demanding complete institutional change.

Pluto will help us to see what power is legitimate in our business structures and what isn’t, who is rightfully a leader and who does not have the personal integrity or character to truly lead humanity into a new era, who is a dinosaur clinging to power using the old methods of coercion, manipulation and control and who has rightfully earned the position of leader.

I think during the next 16 years, (within the context of the Aquarian era shift), equality will be chosen more often than not over hierarchy. Even the concept of a “boss” will come under scrutiny within many organizations. As will the owner-worker paradigm and the right to dominate, manipulate and control “underlings” that sometimes goes along with being in charge of the purse strings. Any inequalities in the dynamics between people on different levels of the hierarchy will come up. The way people are bullied into putting up with abusive conditions out of fear of losing their employment. And the personality issues that people at the top of the hierarchy are allowed to have…things that would not be tolerated in workers lower on the totem pole. Top-down decision-making where people who are completely disconnected from the reality of the workers are creating policies that don’t make practical sense. The lack of access many workers have to the decision-making process, despite the fact that it affects their livelihoods. Corporate policy that is sometimes impractical and inhumane. All this excitement and much more!!!

As far as the timing of Pluto in Capricorn, I think a lot of people are now starting to see that there are problems associated with unfettered corporate consumer capitalism. We understand now that seeing human beings strictly as consumers, gobbling up corporate products, is an unbalanced view of things. We see that translating the Earth’s resources into dollars and cents, grabbing them up and consuming them as quickly as possible is not a sustainable way to live. And the access corporate heads have to our government’s decision-making is becoming just a little too much for a lot of us to bear. (North American Union, anyone?) For me, personally, I’ve never been able to participate in corporate structures for too long because they always felt so horrible. The imbalance and the disconnect from the inner, soul-guided level of things was something I could never stomach. So I’m quite biased on this subject. But for me, I can see quite clearly that Pluto in Capricorn is going to involve a transformation of business structures and all unbalanced hierarchical structures in our world. We’re going to start seeing through any of these structures that are propped up with coercion, fear, control and domination.

Anyway, that’s my take on things. These are issues that are really deeply ingrained in our society and they’re not at the level of conscious awareness for most people. So I’m sure it’s going to take all of Pluto’s might over these next 16 years to get people to take a look at this stuff. I just hope the planet can hold out that long…"

Happy 12th Birthday, Willow's Web Astrology Blog, at the Jupiter Return!

Willow's Web Astrology blog birth chart - February 25, 2008

Willow's Web Astrology blog is 12 years old today! This is a milestone birthday because it coincides with the blog's Jupiter Return in Capricorn in the 3rd house.

Capricorn is a sign that relates to perspective gained through experience, an exalted view that comes as we survey all that has come before. At a Jupiter Return, we're surveying, in particular, the past 12 years.

Through it all - a catastrophic health condition; poverty; multiple moves; multiple supplemental jobs; break-ups; deaths in the family; censorship; being plagiarized; being mocked, attacked, and discounted; even being straight-up disowned for a time by a family who thought I had gone plumb crazy for doing this work - I practised astrology and wrote this site. I researched and I studied and I wrote and I practised. It was the single common thread that I could follow through this bumpy-ass, seemingly disjointed, often incendiary life, and I wrote my way through all of it. I wrote a path for myself through a life on a planet that I, at times, didn't know if I wanted to exist on. And I hope this writing has helped its readers on their paths through life on this planet, too. That was always and always will be the goal: helping other people through at the same time as I help myself through.

Capricorn is a sign related to status, prestige, and public recognition for one's efforts, and these themes have certainly been challenges. Blog articles are definitely considered less prestigious in the mainstream than writing a book or reporting for the nightly news - though I do not personally agree with those perceptions.

Writing in general has become very devalued in this digital age when every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a lifestyle blog or Twitter account considers themselves a writer. People have come to expect ever-updating, easy access "content" (I really dislike that term) for free because there's so much of it out there. (Quantity has certainly usurped quality, however...)

Happy 11th Birthday, WWA Blog!

My blog is 11 years old today! Entering the pre-teen years with grace and aplomb...

One of my goals for 2019 was to help bring the intuitive/spiritual/metaphysical arts more strongly into the traditional arts scene, creating a solid and respected place there for serious astrologers, tarot readers, psychics, and other intuitive artists.

I think we've more than earned our place!

Unrelated to that goal (or so I thought), I recently started a social group for writers of all varieties in the area where I live. The initial meet-up location for the group is at a cool little retro bistro/cafe near the railroad tracks here that has (what else?) a train/railway theme. I sense a "making connections" theme..

So far, the meet-up group has brought different creative people and creative threads together with ideas springing up for cross-overs and collaborations, including the possibility of a multi-disciplinary open mic night. Very cool!

Unexpectedly, I seem to be making a wee bit of progress toward my goal of carving out a place for astrology and the intuitive arts within the broader arts scene in this area - not by straight-out asking for this but by coming into contact with other creative people who want to grow and develop the arts scene here. Purely organic! For me, that's always the best way for these things to happen (probably the only way).

I'm excited and honoured to help bring astrology into the more traditional arts fold in my town in whatever way is needed and rightful, to respectfully represent this precious and sacred art and to introduce people to a more in-depth understanding of it and its amazingly helpful applications.

It isn't something I consciously set out to do with the writers group, but it's something I sure do love to see. I think it's just time - in my area and in many areas - to establish the intuitive arts and legitimate intuitive artists as real and valuable elements of the overall arts scene.

I know the rightful place for astrology, astrologers, and other intuitive readers won't be carved out overnight. (Understatement.) But to see any progress on this front is pretty delightful.

Thank-you as always for being the most kick-ass astro blog around, WWA! Please keep on keeping on with your damn fine self.

And thank-YOU for reading, for becoming patrons, for ordering readings or lessons, for buying zines or photography or jewellery, for making supportive comments, for sending appreciative emails, and for sharing articles and videos with your own networks.

I hope I don't know a day when I'm not sharing what I see and fighting for a better way through Willow's Web Astrology.

Happy, Happy 11th Birthday, Baby!

Mercury-Black Moon Lilith Contacts, Censorship, and Reporting From the Fringes

Media and communication planet Mercury forms an exterior conjunction to the Sun in Aquarius today (6:52 p.m. PST) at 9 degrees.

These bodies continue travelling in conjunction until Mercury enters Pisces on February 10. The Sun and Mercury are also forming conjunctions to Black Moon Lilith (BML), the point of deep, dark, denied feminine experience.

This indicates that the Sun is shining its light on outsider (BML) information (Mercury) and on those who write, speak, and share that information.

Reporting from the fringes!

Mercury-Black Moon Lilith contacts can indicate perspectives that are inflammatory or disturbing to a more mainstream or establishment mindset (even pseudo-alternative varieties), and these outsider perspectives can sometimes create hostile backlash for the marginalized messengers.

There's some bounce-back, some rejection, some ejection, some circling of the wagons associated with Black Moon Lilith, and when winged messenger Mercury is involved, this particularly relates to information, ideas, and communication.

As a person with a prominent Mercury-Black Moon Lilith contact in the natal chart, I'm offering up an illustrative tale here from my 20-year experience as a writer and reporter who has always, through no intention of my own, had a very hard time getting my work included in the public discourse - both mainstream and alternative versions.

Before I became the ass-kicking anarchist astro-reporter whose words you are reading here today (heh), I briefly worked in mainstream media.  I have an undergraduate degree in journalism and communications from the University of Regina, Saskatchewan. But even way back in journalism school, the BML writing was on the wall.

I came to understand quite quickly that the media outlets as they existed would not allow me to do the work I needed to do. I knew they wouldn't accept my perspective or the perspectives of people like me as fully legitimate, as deserving of a voice and a real place at the table.

A Solid Decade of WWA!

Yes, I sang Happy Birthday to my blog. So did this rotating lotus candle. That's just how we roll.

Today is the ten-year anniversary of the fateful night I unleashed the first Willow's Web Astrology post onto the worldwide web.

Happiest of Birthdays, ten-year-old WWA blog!

As with most professions, writers generally improve and hone their skills over time, but I would say the overall tone of this blog was there from the very first posts! I started the blog with Pluto on the zero degree of Capricorn, and the themes are definitely still ringing a bell with Pluto now two-thirds of its way through the sign.

Let's reminisce, shall we?

(Or skip to the bottom if you're not in the mood for astrological reminiscing...)

Published on the WWA blog's birthday, February 25, 2008:

"Pluto fuels a process of intense examination and scrutiny of the aspects of life we would often rather not look at. I'm glad this blog has survived the past decade, and I'm glad I've survived to continue with it.

Thank-you to the readers, patrons, customers, and friends of WWA from the past 10 years. Thank-you for your comments, your emails, your patronage, your business, your trust, your intelligence, and your humour - and also for just being kick ass humans on Planet Earth! I'm grateful that my work means something to you, and it's amazing to think that some of you have been reading this blog for almost 10 years! Some of you have!

A lot of things have changed over ten years, but luckily, being an old school Blogspot is not one of them. heh (If people turn their noses up at Blogger blogs, they're really missing the point...)

I'm glad people still read blogs.

I'm glad people still read.

I'm glad you read.

Thank-you for reading.

I'll keep telling you what I see through the astrological-sociopolitical lens.

Party on, Willow's Web Astrology! Party on, Willow's Web Astrology readers!

Become a WWA Patron; Get Good Stuff.

I'm not trying to sell you on this, but now is a really banging time to become a Willow's Web Astrology patron.

All new patrons will receive the most recent patron article, "The Saturn in Capricorn Transit is Kicked Off With a Six-Planet Stellium," a super juicy number covering themes for the upcoming Capricorn stellium, as well as a stellium in Aquarius in 2021.

Until December 31, 2017, new patrons will also receive the main Saturn in Capricorn article, "Saturn in Capricorn: An Astrological Overview for Long-Term Strategic Planning," as a bonus. This article is 7,000+ words and intensively covers the aspects and challenges of the three-year Saturn in Capricorn transit.

So until the end of 2017, new patrons receive two very substantial patron articles right off the bat ($22.50 purchased separately), both of which provide an astrological view that carries us forward over the next few years on Planet Earth.

I'm also coming up on the 10-year anniversary for this site in February, and there will likely be a fun draw or two for the patrons in celebration of that and to thank them for their support. New patrons would have a chance to enter draws for nice WWA products, also.

Please understand that nothing on this blog is free. It all takes time, energy, and effort to craft. It draws on tens of thousands of hours of education, study, experience, and observation over 20 years in the fields of sociology, journalism, media, astrology, metaphysics, activism, natural health, and others.

Writing is work. Journalism is work. Astrology is work. Activism is work.

It's all work. Not a hobby. Not a charity. Not a fun and entertaining past-time.

Patronage allows me to post more "free" content on the blog throughout the year, and it also allows me to continue with activist/journalist efforts, which, while unpaid, are important and very energy-consuming.

As newspapers are closed and mainstream media becomes consolidated by and filtered through fewer and fewer people/corporations, independent sites like Willow's Web Astrology are important for the type of soulful reporting and laying-bare-of-truth via the astrological framework that you will not find elsewhere.

As mentioned, I'm coming up on my 10-year anniversary for this site in February 2018. If you've been reading here over the years and finding valuable insight and perspective, please consider becoming a patron. You will not only have access to highly juicy patron articles (I had to go rogue to get the photographs for the last article!), you will be providing value in return for value you have received. A fair exchange.

I can't guarantee how much work I will be able to offer for "free" on the blog in this new year, but patronage does help me to continue doing this work amidst the challenging conditions of the times.

You can become a patron for as little as 35 bucks per year. This is in Canuck funds, so that will be around $28 US. (I'm not sure of currency conversion rates for other currencies, but let's hope the Canadian dollar is weak in the face of your own towering currency!)

Happy Solstice 2017, WWA readers, patrons, and customers! Keep on keeping on with your fine selves.

The Diminishing and Marginalization of "Those Types" of Astrologers Within the Astrology Establishment

A couple days ago, I was urged to share a link to my recent article, "Hurricane Harvey, the Total Solar Eclipse, and This Era of Unnatural Disaster," on a Reddit.com astrology board. Reddit, as most people know, is a public message board site.

This is not something I normally do. I've actually never posted a link to my articles on Reddit, and I don't frequent the site. Another astrologer kindly posted some of my articles there a few years ago, and I believe I made two comments in total at the site before now.

The link to my article stayed up at the Reddit astrology page for a couple hours. I could see on my StatCounter that people were navigating to my site from the link.

But soon after, the link I posted disappeared from the page.

So I posted it again.

Again, it was deleted.

I thought maybe it was stationing Mercury that was messing with me and asked a friend to check the site for my link. She couldn't find it, either.

I wanted to know if this was censorship based on the subject matter of the article (which was certainly astrological in nature, involving a fair amount of transit and astrological research) or whether this was a general blackballing of me as an astrologer.

So I tested the waters, posting a link to this other recent article, "The Push for Standardized Astrological Education As a Pluto in Capricorn-Era Control Mechanism."

In it, I outlined a level of discrimination I've experienced and felt against self-taught intuitive astrology (the type of astrology I practise) coming from the astrological establishment.

The experience I had after posting this link amusingly (and aggravatingly) illustrates exactly what I'm talking about, which I will share here.

Posting the second article had an immediate large and backlash-y reaction with a few people shit-swarming me in the comments section. This included a couple of the more establishment-friendly astrologers trying to dominate my perspective out of existence.

"Your experience is not your experience because I say it's not and because I haven't experienced that myself, so that means it's not happening."

(Is this what they call gaslighting?)

I was called "hostile," "skewed," "dogmatic," "objectively incorrect," and was said to be promoting a "narrative that is garbage," among other pleasantries.

All this because I refused to be brainwashed out of my own 15+ years of experience, and I refused to be bullied into accepting their more establishment-friendly reality in place of my own.

One commenter seemed to be particularly incensed by my article and perspective, launching into paragraphs-long commentary trying to dominate my viewpoint out of existence. In his mind, his experience as a more establishment-accepted astrologer negated my (very different) experience. The classic, "I haven't experienced that, so it doesn't exist" thing.

It's common for the dominant paradigm to insist that it is the only paradigm - or the only paradigm that really matters.

This commenter said full-on that he believed it was correct that astrologers whose work involves conspiracy research should be censored from that message board. That was fairly mind-boggling to me. Then in the second breath, he demanded to know what made me think he was more establishment-friendly than I am. (You can't make this stuff up, folks.)

Another commenter turned his nose up at sociopolitical astrology ("exhausting!") and stated his preference that astrology be just a "fun personal interest." (This view, depressingly, probably represents 90% of all astrology enthusiasts these days...)

Excessively-long comment section shitstorm short, it turns out that the guy who was so obsessively trying to force his establishment-friendly views down my throat was the moderator who censored my article in the first place! Ah, it all makes sense now.

Except, he claims it's not censorship and that, again, I am pretty well a wingnut if I think that is the case.

The stated reason for my article being deleted (twice) from the Reddit astrology board:

"Resources that discuss conspiracy theories are discouraged in much the same way we discourage palmistry, numerology, and general occult things like that."

So in a fit of absolute and utter cosmic perfection and beauty, we see a clear example of the type of marginalization of "certain astrologers" within the astrology establishment that I wrote about in the article and that I then reiterated in the comments section of that article.

As this guy is so vehemently insisting that I'm making all this up and this discrimination/experience/perspective does not exist, he is illustrating the very dynamics about which I'm writing.

The reason the article had such a huge and backlash-y response from these people is that it hit the nail squarely on the head.

Now, none of the astrologers I know are opposed to palmistry, numerology, tarot, psychic abilities, conspiracy research, etc. It would actually seem insane to us, as astrologers, to be opposed to these things. If we aren't into them ourselves, we're certainly not going to make it our mission to discredit them and stamp them out - so long as they're being legitimately practised by ethical people. And opposing "general occult things?" Astrology itself is considered an occult subject!

If this is the policy of that Reddit astrology page, they need to make that bias known up front by stating it as a rule on the front of the page.

As I said in the article on forced standardized education/certification, I don't mind being treated like a second class citizen. What I mind is not knowing why I'm being treated that way. What I mind is everyone pretending it's not going on, pretending everything is so inclusive and evolved, when the reality of how things function is far from that.

This Reddit moderator is taking his cues from the astrology establishment, which believes that it has to distance itself from "those types" of astrologers in order to gain mainstream acceptance (and salaries).

This type of discrimination against and marginalization of intuitive astrology and astrologers (which, yes, could also involve things like palmistry, numerology, psychic abilities, divination tools, conspiracy research, etc.) is unfortunately far from uncommon within the astrological establishment.

Well, I'm one of "those types" of astrologers. The astrologers I roll with are "those types" of astrologers. The astrologers I respect are "those types" of astrologers. And we're one potent motherfucking crew. We exist. We practise astrology; we do readings; we write; we teach; we speak; all from that potent motherfucking perspective that only we can bring.

And the astrology establishment is just going to have to get over it. Pretending we don't exist or pretending that we're just "secondary astrologers," marginalizing and shutting out our practise of astrology while pretending this is not going on - it's all so very, very last era.

And it's all very clearly a Pluto in Capricorn-era control mechanism, a power move designed to create prestige and financial reward (Capricorn) for those who play the game while diminishing and shutting out those who do not.

Let's bring it all out into the open, friends. Jupiter in Scorpio is on its way.

The Push for Standardized Astrological Education As a Pluto in Capricorn-Era Control Mechanism

I only recently learned, after 10 years as a professional astrologer, that intuitive astrology is looked down upon by the astrology establishment.

Honestly, this explains a lot.

I've always known that I did not fit in with this particular crowd for some reason.

All the astrology conferences and courses and schools and lectures - it all costs money I don't have to spend and is therefore inaccessible to me and to any other poor or working class astrologer or student. But even that didn't tell the whole story. There was just something off about me even attempting to interact in that world.

And now I know.

Self-taught astrologers, intuitive astrologers, astrologers who haven't jumped through the particular hoops set out by this astrological establishment, are considered secondary - possibly (possibly) serviceable at what they do, but not among the best and brightest, not members of the Big Deal Astrologers club.

OK, good. Glad to have that clarified.

I don't really mind being considered a second class citizen or being snubbed by the astrology establishment. The thing that bugs me is when I'm treated that way without fully understanding the underlying motivation or reason.

From early on as an astrologer, I picked up on the push for standardized astrological education for practising astrologers. (I'm intuitive, right? You can't get a control mechanism past me.)

Many of the current astrological associations and groups have been built around this push for standardized education. In other words, in order to call yourself a professional astrologer, you have to have certain certifications, take certain approved courses of study, and be tested on your knowledge by certain other establishment-approved astrologers. (And again, this all takes $$$, so it's a pretty middle and upper-middle class-dominated scheme.)

If you don't jump through these particular hoops and learn these particular pre-approved brands of astrology, receiving the piece(s) of paper that says you're a legit professional in the minds of these establishment astrologers, you pretty well aren't welcome in their clubs. You're shut out of "the scene," as well as the many opportunities for professional advancement enjoyed by those in these particular (quite insular) clubs.

Well, to be honest, they can have it.

Happy Birthday, WWA Blog!

Oh-so-fine at age nine! Today is the nine-year anniversary of my very first blog post on February 25, 2008. A lot has happened since then, to say the least.

Thank-you for everything you have provided for me and for those who read from around the world, WWA blog! You're a wonder of nature.

If you've been considering becoming a patron but holding off, I would encourage you to make the move now so that you will receive the Venus retrograde 2017 article. This article (6,400+ words) is rich, detailed, and highly relevant as Venus pulls into its retrograde station March 4. This is the most recent patron article, which means, if you become a patron now, you will receive this article as part of your patronage. Once a new patron article is published, you would have to pay for the Venus article separately in order to receive it.

Or if a patronage is not your bag, consider a one-time offering in honour of the blog's Big Number Nine birthday. People who make either of these one-time offerings will receive a copy of the Venus retrograde 2017 article:

Happy Birthday, WWA Blog - $10

Happy Birthday, WWA Blog - $20

Willow's Web Astrology will keep on keeping on however it is able. But as most of you are aware, survival is becoming more difficult - for everyone, but particularly for independent enterprises such as this and for people who go against the grain in some way. So if Willow's Web Astrology blog has helped you or inspired you at some point, consider becoming a patron. Buy a zine or a few to distribute. Consider sponsoring the donation or distribution of a zine (see below). Or purchase a snazzy piece of jewellery or some photograph prints.

I love this blog. Here's to nine more years!

(Oh, Jesus...)

Buy a Zine and Willow Will Release it Into the Wild!

I have a new option for people who would like to sponsor the release of a zine into the wild but who do not have the time or inclination to do it themselves. (I know most people are stretched for time and energy these days.) You can purchase a zine along with the basic postage cost, and I will send that little zine on its way to an effective landing spot. You can select the location where you would like the zine to be sent, or you can leave it up to me. You can also add a bumper sticker to the Stop GM Alfalfa zine, if you're feelin' it.

If interested, please contact me at willowsweb [at] hushmail.com.

Some possibilities for sponsoring the release of a zine:

- sending the zine to a media outlet, a politician, a public figure, a friend, a journalism school, a community group, an activist group, etc.

- donation of a zine to a zine library: this gets the zine out into the zine-reading public and ensures that it is available to people to read for free

- donation of a zine to an anarchist/community bookstore that sells zines: this provides a little cash for the bookstore - many of which are struggling to survive - when the zine sells and also gets the zine out into the public

- distributing it in some public place at random: in a park, at a bus shelter, at a Farmers Market. This adds the exciting element of chance! Who knows who might come across it?

- or come up with your own idea for distribution

Thank-you as always for reading!

Happiest of Birthdays, WWA blog!

Uranus Stationing, a Plutonic Mercury Rx, and Jennifer Jason Leigh in a Pixie Cut

We're currently experiencing a highly Plutonic Mercury retrograde in Capricorn/late Sagittarius (December 19 to January 8).

Mercury retrogrades, in general, bring us newly-uncovered information and perspective to process. But this one, infused so greatly with Pluto energy from the Mercury retrograde station conjunct Pluto on December 19, is truly hell-bent on exposing certain things that have been hidden from view.

There is really no holding back the tenacity of this Mercury placement, infused with intense-and-otherworldy Plutonic drive. It will leave no stone unturned.

The information Mercury is digging up now is molten lava. It gets right to the point. This information is potentially traumatic, potentially triggering, and potentially disgusting.

But it is also empowering. It's always empowering to finally have something exposed that has been going on beneath your nose.

Mercury is digging things up, in particular, to expose illegitimacy, dishonesty, and nefarious practises (especially business/financial practises).

This process of exposure, of bringing certain (potentially gross) information to light, is working its magic layer-by-layer but will not be complete until the exact Mercury-Pluto conjunction on January 29 (17 degrees Capricorn), the exact Mercury-Uranus square January 31 (21 degrees Capricorn/Aries), and finally the Mercury ingress of Aquarius (February 7).

In addition to this Plutonic Mercury retrograde digging around in the muck, Uranus is currently stationing direct at 20 degrees Aries (December 28), which indicates the potential for shocks (Uranus) related to our identities (Aries).

And boy, did I just get one of those.

Happy Birthday, WWA blog!

Today, my blog is eight years old. One full Venus cycle is behind us. And when I think of all the amazingly brilliant, interesting, and kick-butt people I've come to know because of this blog, I'm a little mind-boggled.

I always had a feeling there were others inhabiting the far reaches. I had a feeling there were others working and living from their own outskirt outposts. And now I know it's true.

I couldn't have imagined, growing up as a square peg in a rural, conservative round hole, that I would one day be able to communicate with other people who saw what I saw and understood what I understood. The internet age is almost like a dream, something truly fantastical. But it's real. I'm real. This blog is real. And you are real.

What a bizarre and fabulous time to be alive.

Happiest of Birthdays, WWA blog! You have provided love, sustenance, information, and guidance through some very treacherous times. Please keep on keeping on.

Avoiding the Seven-Year Itch at Willow's Web Astrology Blog

Today is the seven-year anniversary of the first Willow's Web Astrology blog post, which hit the astro blogosphere with a bang on February 25, 2008.

I was living in oil-rich, gentrified-and-cleansed Calgary, Alberta at the time, working at a magical import art store called Art of My Heart. Art of My Heart was, unfortunately, bulldozed over by the Pluto in Capricorn steamroller in early 2009. And then I got poisoned by Cipro. But for a tiny window of time there during which WWA blog was spawned, things were pretty A-OK in Willow's world!

Now I'm back where I came from, living in the rural area where I grew up. I'm still in oil country (with the oil flares to prove it! sigh), but I'm also right where I need to be to continue reporting on the critical (and buried) issues of the times. I live in the primary uranium-producing province in all of North America. I'm in the middle of the Bakken oilfield. I'm surrounded by chemical-intensive genetically modified agriculture (but also plenty of great gardeners and greenhouse growers, as well). The politics here run right-wing conservative and Old Boys' Club. The relationships run to the "traditional gender roles/family units that don't really work for anyone at this point." There's plenty of work to do, plenty of work to do.

So my baby is seven years old today, no longer a baby at all.

Wow, time sure flies when humanity is on the brink of annihilation, doesn't it?

Thank-you for your support of Willow's Web Astrology over the years via comments, emails, and patronages. If I didn't know that these energy-intensive articles were hitting the mark, I doubt I would have had the confidence to continue writing and pouring my heart and soul into them. So thank-you for letting me know.

To the whiners, the complainers, and the overly-entitled sorts who think they have a say in what goes on here, as always, I thumb my nose in your general direction and will continue to do so as long as this blog is operational. *eye bat, eye bat*

I will continue to write some content that is free for the general public and some that is available in its entirety only to patrons and paying customers. There will likely be fewer articles than in the past, but the articles that do appear will be substantial, as usual.

I don't ask anyone else to work for free, so please don't ask or expect me to. Astrological analysis and writing are work. They're hard work. And I deserve fair and basic compensation for the work that I do and for the assistance and guidance I provide in these times.

If you don't believe I deserve fair and basic compensation for the work that I do, you are no friend to Willow's Web Astrology, and I would ask that you hitch your wagon to another astrologer instead. There are plenty out there.

I have to say, I've perused the Solar Return chart for the blog for this year, and I like it. I like it a lot. There will be some intense challenges, of course, but lots of good stuff going on, too. Sun conjunct Neptune in Pisces. Venus-Mars in Aries trine Saturn in Sagittarius. Moon in Gemini trine Mercury in Aquarius trine the North Node in Libra. Ceres and Pluto bringing their hardcore power together with a conjunction in Capricorn.

All in all, this baby has the fire to go another year for sure and maybe even another seven, who knows?

(We really can't plan too far ahead with Fukushima spewing into its 4th year, now, can we?)

This blog has been a lifesaver for me over these past seven years - not least of which because it has provided me a way to survive financially through utter Big Pharma-induced health devastation. This blog has allowed me to improve and utilize my skills, and it has brought me into contact with like-minded people from all around the globe, something I very, very rarely find in my day-to-day life. For that, I am forever grateful.

Happy Seventh Birthday, Willow's Web Astrology blog! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. Here's to many more to come.

A Brand New Edition of...Cunts in the Comments Section!

I woke up this morning to a brand, spanking new candidate for "Cunts in the Comments Section." Joyous day.

Yesterday, I wrote about the first Fukushima-irradiated sailor from the U.S. Navy dying from cancer.

Today, I wake up to this gem from some random internet idiot:

"Sick... write more astrology stuff... thats your forte...

Like What does 29,29,29 Mercury in Cancer in the 8th house bode for one? AS a fledging student what house should I focus on for a career!!! Love!!!"

I'll tell you what's sick. People with that attitude are sick.

It is exactly people like this that I don't want reading my site. People who as "fledgling students" feel they can soak up the astrology here for free and then leave shitty comments when I do an important sociopolitical post. People who dry hump astrology for their own obsessive, navel-gazing self-interest.

"Me, me, tell me more about meeeeeee!"

Yes, let me discontinue covering the most important and least covered story on the planet (Fukushima) to give you free analysis on your career.

Let me discontinue my focus on an issue that affects every living thing on this planet so that I can focus my full attention on you and your birth chart and your career path.

There are a few things I'd like to come across loud and clear here:

1. People who dry hump astrology for their own obsessive self-interest can go fuck themselves.

2. Astrology does not like it when people dry hump it for their own obsessive self-interest.

3. People who soak up professional astrology for free and give nothing in return but shitty, eroding comments can go fuck themselves.

4. Professional astrologers do not like people who soak up their professional astrology for free and then leave shitty, eroding comments.

5. If you want analysis on your own life or chart, pay for a fucking reading, you cheap, ridiculous cunt.

6. I do not do readings for cheap, ridiculous cunts, though, so please do not request one from me.

7. For people like this: please know that your birth chart is not NEARLY as fascinating to others as you suppose it is.

The Patrons of Willow's Web Astrology

The underlying idea for patronage of Willow's Web Astrology is: a currency exchange. Value given for value received.

If you regularly find valuable insight and information from Willow's Web Astrology, a patronage is a way of offering value in return for that insight and information. This keeps things balanced, it keeps things fair, and it ensures that this source of valuable astrology and analysis does not become depleted. It ensures that the astrology keeps flowing from a deep, deep source.

If you are a patron, the underlying idea is that you want Willow's Web Astrology to continue, and this includes as a business.

There is an old school Piscean-era idea (now less and less relevant) that "spiritual work" should be done for free. The idea is that if you charge for your work, you are something of a scheister, a charlatan, or a swindler.

I simply have to call bullshit on that one.

Many of us doing "spiritual" work (I just call it work, by the way) must pay the same rents, the same bills, and the same expenses as those doing "less spiritual" work. (Honestly, you can see how characterizing some work as "spiritual" and some as "less spiritual" is fairly ridiculous, can't you?)

I don't live in a monastery. I don't live in a convent. I don't live in an ashram. I don't have a parsonage provided for me.

I don't have an organization to provide the basics of living to me. I provide those for myself.

It's come to my attention that some occasional readers are not aware of this fact, but astrology is my full-time business. Willow's Web Astrology is a business, and I work as a professional astrologer. I run this business according to metaphysical rules as much as by rules of the physical plane, but it is a business nonetheless.

I would never ask anyone to work for free. So why would people expect me to?

I would never expect people to charge less than their work is worth. But for some reason, my work, by its very nature, is often devalued.

A patronage is meant to cover the totality of what is provided by Willow's Web Astrology in a 365-day period.

The idea of a patronage should not be how much extra you can get from Willow for your patronage amount.

The idea is that you are paying for the value you receive organically, without demanding anything more than what naturally comes to you.

I can only write what comes through me to write. I can't force the issue, or it could have dangerous results for me and for readers. With this blog, it has to be quality over quantity.

If you do not find that you are receiving the full value for your patronage amount, I'm sorry to hear that, but it's your responsibility to determine that and to cancel your patronage if this is the case. Astrological tastes can certainly shift over the years, and it is not uncommon for people to move on from an astrology blog, including from mine.

There are certain articles - particularly detailed, energy-intensive, and in-depth articles - for which I must charge an additional fee. This means, even if you are a much-appreciated patron of Willow's Web, you will not necessarily receive every article I write for that patronage amount. There may be the odd article that everyone has to pay for, patrons included.

I'm very highly tuned to what's fair. I'm a Libra Sun, after all. I will not charge for an article unless I know it's the right thing to do and unless I have to. If I know it's the right thing to do, however, it's fully sanctioned both on this Earth and off, and no one else has a say in it.

I thank all patrons of Willow's Web Astrology and all customers who purchase my articles. Without you, this site would not have continued - at least, not with most of the content being provided for "free."

But I also have to ensure that people are becoming patrons for the right reasons.

If you feel you aren't getting your money's worth, if you're angry that I charge for some of my work, if you're miffed that you have to pay to get full articles, or if you resent the fact that I must make a living running my business, I would kindly ask you to reconsider your patronage. There is no anger or hard feelings on my part. It's just that I only want the right energy coming in in the form of currency.

I'm doing nothing below board here. I do not feel guilty for charging what I charge. I feel that the amounts I charge for readings, for patronages, and for additional articles are fully reasonable. I have a niche audience, and please believe me when I say: I'm not getting rich doing this. Far from it. But I do need to make a basic living if I am to continue this work.

It doesn't matter to me what other astrologers are doing. I'm not other astrologers. And contrary to what some nasty pieces of work have suggested over the years, you will not find my particular brand of astrology or astrological analysis elsewhere. It's unique in the true sense of the word.

Knowing that, I will not abuse my position. I will never keep anyone on the hook or charge an excessive amount for my work.

I'm from good, old, working class prairie stock, and I understand the value of a (non-inflated) hard-earned dollar. I understand that many are going through tough financial times now. But I also understand that under the current systems people can't work for free, especially when that work is top quality and energy-intensive.

I run my business in a way that I feel is fair. I charge the smallest amount I feel is fair for the energy, time, and effort I've put out. Case closed.

I thank you for your support of Willow's Web Astrology, both financial and energetic.

I also thank those who have left wonderful comments on the site over the years, as these have provided necessary encouragement to continue through tough times.

I want Willow's Web Astrology to be a feel good enterprise with no underlying resentments or hard feelings involved.

Please know that I do my very best to provide astrological guidance and insight for these times. But I can only do my best. I can only do what is in my power to do.

The same is true for astrology readings. I do my absolute best with every reading that comes in to me. I give each one my full attention and focus, and I do the reading with the intention that it will help the individual, that it will provide the information and insight the person needs at that time (which is sometimes different from the information and insight he or she wants at that time!).

If Willow's Web Astrology is no longer doing it for you, there may be another astrologer out there who would.

No one is stuck in this Willow's Web. You are all free to come and go as your soul sees fit.

My love and gratitude to my comrades.

Peace out.

The Metaphysical Beat at Willow's Web Astrology

Venus and the Moon in Capricorn on the WWA blog 6th birthday
Photos: Willow

Willow's Web Astrology blog is six years old today. (Has it really only been six years?)

I feel as tired as any mother of a very demanding six-year-old.

Except, I think this blog was quadruplets.

I'd like to take this opportunity to make an important point for readers in light of the tumultuous times through which we are living:

Please do not rely on Willow's Web Astrology blog to keep you up on all unfolding world events.

Willow's Web Astrology is not a constantly updating news outlet. I am not paid to be a constantly updating news outlet.

It's true that I'm a trained journalist, but after engaging in that line of work, I chose to leave the media - both mainstream and alternative - because I do not like the effect it has on people's minds. I've been censored multiple times while working in the media - yes, in both mainstream and alternative. I see public opinion being shaped in erroneous ways by the media. I see important stories being intentionally kept out of the media.

I've seen how reporters start to self-censor after being shot down by editors time and time again on the stories that matter to them. I see how they start to go along to get along. So I've seen the top-down power structure of the media at work, and it's nothing I wish to be a part of.

Since I do not like the energy of the media, I'm not going to emulate its rhythms or style in any way with my own writing, if I can help it. At this stage in the game, I feel the media is, ultimately, a propaganda tool for the powers-that-be, shaping half-truths and weak arguments into stories for mass consumption. I believe the media diverts attention, in many cases, from what's really going on on this planet. I took my leave, and I won't be re-entering that scene.

You'll see a great number of sexy and sensational images splashed across your newspapers, television screens, and computer monitors this cardinal Grand Cross spring and over the following few years. But you won't see them repeated here.

The world is at a boiling point, it's true. Forced into action by conditions too dire to tolerate. But from my perspective, we've always been here. It's always been this bad - it's just that more people are directly affected now and fewer can deny it. Fewer are able to go along with it. They would if they could.

Have revolt and resistance not always burned in the hearts and souls of people oppressed under corrupt and unjust systems? Things are being pushed to points of criticality on this planet, and will be during the exact Grand Cross this April, but the situation is really not much different than it ever was.

The conditions on Earth were never OK. The levels of needless suffering here were never OK.

We are under an umbrella of the same deadly and corrupt Global Governance around the world. Whether the burning rage against injustice and oppression are internalized or externalized and spilling into the streets, the conditions are pretty much the same.

The protests and revolts that get the big media play this spring (and in the following years) will be the protests that are most useful to the agenda of the powers-that-be. As with the Arab Spring, the rage and passion and resistance of the people will be used to lock a vicious new world order called "democracy" and "freedom" and "choice" into place. The only thing is, the good guys aren't really good guys. The European Union is no saviour from Russia. The United States and "Western democracy" are no saviour from the bloody dictators, who are simply more transparent about their ways of doing things.

I write about a great many subjects on the blog, only some of which are news events. The major focus here is and always will be producing helpful astrological articles for soulful guidance and successful navigation of the times.

No journalist covers all subjects. Journalists generally have beats - specific areas they focus on and cover where they develop particular expertise over time. In a usual newspaper, these beats include city news, the courts, arts and lifestyle, sports, crime, etc.

I've been put on my own metaphysical beat here at Willow's Web Astrology, and I receive my assignments. These assignments are more than enough for me to cover, and I don't have energy to go beyond those boundaries.

I feel that many stories being covered by both mainstream and alternative media are overblown, over-hyped, and manipulative, and I will not put any more energy into those subjects except through media criticism.

That said, if you do not see a topic covered on this blog, it's not necessarily because I don't think it's valuable to cover.

It's just not my assignment, see?

One subject I think needs more public attention is fracking (hydraulic fracturing). Again, just because I don't cover it here doesn't mean I think it unimportant.

It's just that, the only way I can avoid "issues fatigue" and burnout is to focus only on my own assignments.

So please continue doing your own research. Find your own sources. Speak out about the subjects that matter to you. And try to appreciate this site for what it is (fabulous, in-depth astrology with a sociopolitical bent), rather than focusing on what it isn't (a daily news outlet).

Happiest of Birthdays, Willow's Web Astrology blog. You're a guiding beacon of light for me, and my life would be much less rich without you.
