Mercury Creaks Forward in Late Aquarius

Communication and intelligence planet Mercury is just starting to creak forward, coming out of a powerful direct station at 28 degrees Aquarius on March 9. This indicates that information flow is slowly starting to move forward again. Our minds are a bit over-taxed at the moment, struggling to focus on what's ahead - or even on the task right in front of us. A mental/informational review process is now over, and we're starting to apply the information and perspective we've gathered as we look to the future (Aquarius).

A few interesting things were happening astrologically around this Mercury direct station:

The Sun formed a conjunction to Neptune in Pisces (18 degrees) on March 8, indicating the presence of an unseen hand directing the proceedings, as well as a focus on "the invisible" or on people or subjects being intentionally kept invisible. (Contagion and permeation are also Pisces themes, and we have certainly had an extensive collective focus on those things recently...)

Venus (relationships, society, arts) formed a conjunction to Uranus (community, radical, status quo-shaker) at 4 degrees Taurus, also on March 8, indicating a bit of a creative or social shake-up related to differing values (Taurus). (Not to mention money market turbulence as a result of you know what.)

We also experienced a Virgo Full Moon on March 9 (19 degrees), opposite the Sun, Neptune, and Black Moon Lilith in Pisces. The opposition to Black Moon Lilith (the point of lunar apogee) meant that this Full Moon was at perigee - the closest it comes to Earth in its orbit. That made the Full Moon appear larger and even more beautiful than usual. This, combined with an opposition to Neptune in Pisces, meant that Full Moon emotions and sensitivities were running particularly high.

(Yes, the term SuperMoon has caught on for a Full Moon at perigee, but I find that term a little gimmicky.)

The dispositor of the Virgo Full Moon was Mercury, stationing direct on that same day, March 9, in late Aquarius, and this made communications and connections around that time particularly potent. I talked about that in the February 12 article, "Mercury Retrograde in Pisces: Mental Spaciness and Chaos Firmly Anchored By Some Earthy Assistance."

As all this was unfolding astrologically, I was censored at one message board site on a subject that is being intentionally kept invisible (dangers of Fukushima fallout), attempted to expose that censorship, was banned, found an anti-censorship alternative, and set up shop there. I'm surprised there wasn't smoke coming off my keyboard during those few days, to be honest!

Mutable Madness!

The Sun slipped into Gemini this morning and immediately we move to a Full Moon conjunct Mars retrograde tonight.

(The Full Moon is exact tomorrow, May 21, at 3:14 p.m. CST at 1 degree Sagittarius.)

This is the first of two Full Moons in Sagittarius - one at 1 degree on May 21, one at 29 degrees on June 20 - that will illuminate the wisdom (or the folly) of our actions, goals, and trajectories up to this point.

These book-end Sagittarius Full Moons ripen the faith, the understanding, and the sage wisdom we've been gathering - sometimes via the School of Hard Knocks - since Saturn first entered Sagittarius in December 2014. Under these Full Moons, we will have opportunities to apply what we now know, producing preferred outcomes even as our emotional cups runneth over...

The Sun moved into the mutable sign of the twins just ahead of ruling planet Mercury stationing direct at 14 degrees Taurus on May 22 (7:20 a.m.), as well.

This indicates some relieving "completion energy" for this Full Moon weekend and that, as of the start of the upcoming week, the show is officially on the road.

We've gained some new perspective and accomplished a whole lot under Grand Earth Trine aspects this spring that involved stationing Jupiter in Virgo as well as the North Node in Virgo.

Let's just put it this way: with Jupiter stationing direct in Virgo May 9, there was a lot (Jupiter) of work to do (Virgo). Add the personal planets transiting work horse Taurus, and spring 2016 has been a bit of an endurance test to complete all the things we had to complete.

For all intents and purposes, though, as the Sun moves into social butterfly Gemini, as we experience the first of two Sagittarius Full Moons, and as communication planet Mercury goes direct, we've accomplished much of what we needed to accomplish - via sustained effort, endurance, stubbornness, and maybe even a touch of brute force.

Now, as the Sun gets settled in Gemini (conjunct asteroid Vesta) and we experience the Mercury direct station, the circulation, communication, and connection wheels are being greased. Necessary information and perspective are rolling in. Mental tensions start to ease a little as we move through the last stretch of May. The things that have been stuck, fixed, cemented onto our minds during the Mercury retrograde through Taurus (April 28 - May 22) start to shift, ease, dissipate, spread out a little. As Mercury picks up speed, these seemingly fixed mental stresses start to resolve themselves, and we start to reap the rewards of our long haul through the sign of the farmer.

At times this spring, we may not have felt we could do it on our own. But we did. We persevered. And now we find ourselves on a new - or at least a more secure - foundation.

The Sun's ingress of Gemini, followed almost immediately by the Full Moon in Sagittarius, also throws us head-long into a highly mutable (changeable, transitional, fluid) span of time.

The Gemini Sun leads the charge - with Venus and Mercury following - into mutable Grand Cross formations that will be very active throughout the month of June.

These mutable Grand Cross formations will involve the Sun, Venus, and Mercury in Gemini, Jupiter in Virgo, Saturn in Sagittarius, and Neptune in Pisces. The bodies form four squares or two oppositions - a cross - in the mutable signs.

This combination of bodies and themes indicates that some divinely-inspired change or transition is afoot. There is some fairly grand movement coming - even in areas we had feared were lost causes.

We must stay flexible, adaptable, and cheerful as we move through this busy and transitional month of June. Like water rolling off a duck's back...

With Jupiter and the North Node transiting Virgo, we must continue with clean-up duty. We must continue rolling up our sleeves and setting things right. We must continue to create order and simplicity and health and function, no matter how many monkey wrenches the universe throws our way, no matter how many slack-asses we come across who choose, instead, to slough things off.

With Virgo, there is a right way to do things. There may be many right ways to do a thing, this is true, but there are ways that are right and proper, and there are ways that are...less than that. We aren't looking for utter perfection. (Where does that truly exist on this wacky planet?) But we are looking for correct, proper, simplified, streamlined, sensible. This is what keeps us grounded as we move through the "mutable madness."

Under these mutable Grand Cross formations, if we've worked diligently - and continue to do so - we may very well see solid progress toward some of our most precious hopes and dreams. With Jupiter and the North Node in Virgo, work is key, though. This doesn't just fall in our laps. Don't let up, don't slack off, don't let things slide - no matter how hard the Pisces South Node conjunct wounded healer Chiron is trying to pull you into the helpless chaos abyss.

Yes, there will be some siren songs, some illusions, some blind spots, and some dead ends nipping at us, tempting us to go in the wrong direction, tempting us to just give up.

With this much mutable energy in the astro atmosphere, there is a possibility of chaos, confusion, ineffectiveness, and the dissipation of physical and mental energy.

But we can outsmart it all.

We must tame these energies, riding the waves successfully as we continue to move toward our cherished goals.

Keep rocking it, keep clearing it, keep streamlining and purifying it. Keep working hard, and these aspects can carry us into some very interesting and inspiring connections as we head into summer in the northern hemisphere.

The connections we make and the networking we do this Gemini season and throughout the month of June will be "of the spirit" in many ways. Connections made, conversations engaged in, and perspectives shared can validate our faith, bringing us back to the inspiring and loving bigger picture for our own lives and for the planet at large.

Phew. We needed that.

There is certainly some stress possible with all these mutable oppositions and squares. There is some pressure here. There are some moments of being a little flustered, a little overwhelmed, maybe with too many possibilities that we must filter through and pare down.

Our faith and our spiritual perspectives may be tested here - perhaps on all sides. We may have moments when our heart drops, when it seems silly to have had faith in the good in people, in things, or in this planet at all.

These are temporary stresses, though, indicated by these transitory squares and oppositions. Stay fluid and move through it. Don't get stuck seeing things through the desolate, heart-hollowing lens of the now-dissolving astrological Piscean era.

No matter what the circumstances, there is inspiration to be had on the path that is now laid before us.

Love, relationship, money, and aesthetics planet Venus enters Gemini on May 24 (3:44 a.m.) just as Jupiter in Virgo squares Saturn in Sagittarius for the final time (exact May 26 at 6:28 a.m.). We're officially on the move in one way or another - and maybe in many ways all at the same time!

Both the Sun and Venus in Gemini will activate the mutable Grand Cross (with Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune) from June 1 - 4 as we move to a New Moon at 14 degrees Gemini on June 4 (9:00 p.m.).

The Gemini New Moon is followed by the Sun-Venus exterior conjunction at 16 degrees Gemini on June 6 (3:49 p.m.).

This conjunction of the Sun and Venus picks up some beautiful threads that began under the Venus Transits of June 2012 and June 2004. The historic Venus Transits were an especially close alignment of the Sun, Venus, and Earth whereby Venus could be seen transiting across the face of the Sun during the Sun-Venus interior conjunctions.

The Venus Transits of 2004 and 2012 occurred in mid-Gemini, which is the same area of the zodiac where the Sun and Venus will conjoin on June 6, 2016.

So again, beautiful threads are being picked up, fortuitous connections are being made, and things are being drawn together in simply magical ways, often related to the events and experiences of those Venus Transits.

To illustrate: it was under the Venus Transit of June 2004 that I first became fully immersed in the study of astrology. That immersion has certainly not let up much to this day, but I can say that I was first brought into the study and practise of astrology in an epic way, body, mind, and spirit, at that time as Venus in Gemini traversed the face of the Sun. I remember that day, and I even remember having the particular realization that a major change had just occurred for me regarding astrology under the influence of the Venus Transit. I was being communicated with by the universe at that time, and I was also learning how to communicate via the language of astrology. An entirely new intellectual framework opened to me under that Venus Transit. All Gemini themes.

During the Venus Transit of 2012, building on the themes and connecting the threads that began in 2004, I was fortunate enough to visit California thanks to a very generous offer by a fabulous lady (and reader of WWA) who lives there by the sea. Other than short trips across the border to North Dakota, that was my very first trip out of Canada. On that same trip, I met fellow astrologer Matt Savinar in person and appeared on his radio show. The show was recorded for YouTube, making it my first YouTube foray. Matt and I also organized a little get together with other local astrologers at a nearby restaurant. So that Venus Transit certainly opened up some major avenues related to short trips, communication, media, and networking (Gemini), building on the themes initiated during the 2004 Venus Transit.

Now, as the Sun and Venus move to their exterior conjunction in mid-Gemini on June 6, we have the release of the third issue of Matt Savinar's Hexagon Astrology Magazine (June 8), a magazine that has drawn a number of astrological perspectives - and astrologers - together in new and potent ways.

Publications like Hexagon are information-based, Gemini-related endeavours, and there is something quite momentous-feeling about this third issue being released under the Sun-Venus exterior conjunction in Gemini. Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac and rules the third house (communication, interaction, networks, local society). With the release of this third issue, Hexagon has officially established a new astrological society along with a new network of astrology-related connections and interactions. This is no small feat, as astrology is often quite a solitary endeavour.

Hexagon has quite literally changed astrological discourse forever, bringing together astrological writing and astrological voices that are generally considered "niche" or outside the astrological establishment, giving them a broader platform and reach. Very influential.

The influence of Sun-Venus in Gemini in mutable Grand Cross formation at the time of its release indicates that this issue of Hexagon may very well be a conduit for the divinely-inspired connections and networking I wrote about earlier. Your anarchist astro-reporter has two articles appearing in this issue of Hexagon, one on the astrology of the punk movement and one on iatrogenic (doctor-caused) illnesses, Big Pharma, and the development of the Plutonic Sociological Imagination (PSI).

Things don't always happen in such textbook ways, but check back to what was going on in your life in June 2004 and June 2012 to get the flavour of the current Sun-Venus conjunction in Gemini on June 6, 2016. As this conjunction takes place within mutable Grand Cross formation, there is something fairly major being activated. Threads are being drawn together, connections are being made, and ideas are being communicated that have quite a massive scope. This formation draws in our faith and our hopes and dreams, as well as the sustained hard work we have put in thus far.

Winged messenger planet Mercury will enter its own sign of Gemini on June 12, activating the mutable Grand Cross yet again at solstice, from June 20 - 22. Saturn Rx in Sagittarius will also be square Neptune in Pisces at that time (exact June 17 at 12 degrees). This Mercury activation occurs as the Moon grows full on the anaretic (29th) degree of Sagittarius June 20, making for a very potent solstice time.

We can expect a very busy period of time June 20 - 22 when those lovely Venusian threads are picked up and activated yet again by Mercury, providing new context, new interactions, and perhaps new societies in which to participate. Short trips and circulation within our local societies and neighbourhoods will be potent. Attending or throwing a solstice party/bonfire may prove fruitful on the networking front.

There is some very necessary cross-flow coming around solstice time as Mercury in Gemini activates the mutable Grand Cross, a new co-mingling and interplay of perspectives and information.

And all this requires a little adjustment on our parts - maybe a lot of adjustment.

Again, some degree of mental stress is to be expected (though not guaranteed). Too many options, too many choices, too many irons in the fire, perhaps. Keep participating in the creation of order (Virgo North Node). Keep working your way through it.

We find new personal context within our societies via this Mercurial activation at solstice, learning new angles and picking up new perspective about our places in the world so that we can define these places and live them precisely.

Venus Leaves its Retrograde Shadow at 23 Gemini

Photo: Willow

New Relationship Territory August 1

Love, money, and relationship planet Venus clears its retrograde shadow at 23 degrees Gemini on July 31, and as it does, it makes an exact trine to Saturn at 23 degrees Libra, in the final leg of its 2.5-year transit through the sign of the scales.

This has a very nice completion feel to it. Things are being capped off gently with this flowing air trine, and we're made aware of how far we've come in matters of love, relating, and partnership since Saturn first began its relationship overhaul and renovations in October 2009.

If we've done the work, we're in stronger relational position now than we've ever been.

Chapters end, cycles close, and we officially move out of the Venus retrograde period in Gemini which included the Venus Transit June 5, putting that momentous event behind us. Venus has been in Gemini for about four months. You can read more about the transit here: Venus Enters Gemini, A New Relationship Cycle Begins, and Mutable Madness Permeates the Skies.

As of August 1, Venus clears the last of the retrograde degrees, and we're officially in new territory on relationship fronts - just in time for the Full Moon in Aquarius that night. According to certain astrological indicators, we've officially entered the first relationship cycle of the astrological Aquarian era, making the new relationship cycle opening more far-reaching and all-encompassing than usual. New relational rules, standards, and responsibilities apply.

Saturn in Libra Check-List

Coming to the end of the Saturn in Libra transit:

"There's a solid groundwork that should have been built by now - new relational rules and standards, a heightened command of social responsibility, the ability to maintain equilibrium under pressure, as well as a new maturity in the tone of our relationships, especially between the sexes. At this point, people either have it or they don't...

This far into Saturn's transit of Libra, we start to see the social and professional results of having put this groundwork in. We also see the results of not having put it in, as well as the areas that contain hazardous holes and breaks in structure. This is especially apparent when we relate with those who have shirked the full effort.

Under Saturn in Libra, we've determined who makes for a favourable partner and who doesn't, and now these standards must be applied across the board...

We're looking for long-term pay-off in relationship here and nothing less than that is worth the time or energy. Those who prove they cannot be responsible toward us, in relation to us, are not worth the time or energy.

Only take on the responsibility toward others that feels absolutely right to take on, and don't give anyone a level of responsibility in relation to you that he or she is not meant (or equipped) to take on...

[I]t's a person with solid integrity, with some financial savvy, with a nose for legitimate advancement, with expertly handled personal responsibilities, and with the ability to dig in and get the job done even if it means deferring personal pleasures who is most attractive under these astro energies.

[Saturn in Libra] is seeking partners with strong shoulders who bear their burdens well, partners who act their age (even older than their chronological age). [It's] seeking a partner who understands the full realities of life, including the difficult, sombre, or "unfun" aspects, who understood them early on, and who worked with them pretty much from the get-go rather than sloughing them off...

People who are obviously playing catch-up on this front are not going to hold as much appeal. We're looking for the results of long-term efforts - what a person has built and what progress has been made over the course of the lifetime.

Charm is a quality with a decreasing amount of value the closer Saturn gets to Scorpio if it is not also attached to absolute integrity and authenticity. Those are the qualities that make bank under Saturn in Scorpio. People who have skated by on looks, charm, charisma, or social prowess and facade are going to find these qualities don't get them nearly as far as they used to.

Playboys (or girls), those who refuse to grow up, the skittish, the cheaters, the fibbers, the non-committal, those who can't manage limitations, restrictions, or adult responsibilities - these people become less and less attractive."

Venus in Cardinal T-Square, Mars-Saturn Conjunct in Libra: Relationships Tested Under Intense Pressure

Let's hope we're quick on the uptake with the new relational rules, standards, and responsibilities worked out through Saturn in Libra because they're being put immediately to the test.

We have exactly one week to enjoy the new Venus in Gemini territory and the Venus-Saturn trine before Venus enters cardinal water sign Cancer August 7, moving straight away into tense cardinal t-square formation with Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn.

That cardinal t-square is exact August 15 and occurs on the same day as Mars in Libra forms a difficult, constricting, even at times desperate conjunction to Saturn in Libra. The constriction of will, energy, and personal direction indicated by this conjunction of the malefics will be difficult to endure during the second week of August, particularly for males and for females who are used to unfettered energy and movement.

Venus in Cancer within cardinal t-square formation is the dispositor of both Mars and Saturn in Libra, and tense, challenging relations under a whole heap of pressure are the dominating theme August 7-17.

We're grinding out progress, but it's hard-won, to say the least.

Soft, comfortable places we're used to falling with Venus in Cancer can prove poisonous under opposition from Lord of the Underworld Pluto in Capricorn. The familiar can become suffocating quagmire, with the Venus square to Uranus in Aries forcing us to go beyond relational comfort zones, beyond usual faces and dynamics. This cardinal t-square forces us to shed prior safe havens in search of something more dynamic as people and relationships morph and change before our eyes.

Relationship structures new and old are being tested on all fronts this August. Every joint, every weld, every bolt and screw are being given the no-nonsense go-over. Anything that cannot withstand the pressure now will crumble ahead of Saturn's transit of Scorpio and the 2013-2014 cardinal Grand Crosses. Shoddy workmanship will not stand.

Weaknesses in our relationship foundations and structures being drawn to our attention now are blessings in disguise, however, as we will have some time to rework things and fortify ahead of Saturn's ingress of deeper, darker, more potentially ass-biting Scorpio October 5.

Structural relationship weaknesses or issues left unresolved will certainly start kicking up the angst once Saturn enters Scorpio, so dig in now wherever you find a fatal flaw. Long-standing issues, hurt, and resentments that have been buried or denied will surface, resurface, and then surface again under Saturn in Scorpio, so make sure your relational frameworks are as sound as they can be ahead of those challenges.

Make sure the people in your life will hold under pressure, that they are solid, and that they can be counted on. Make decisions about who you have in your life now, with Saturn in notoriously indecisive Libra, or the decisions will be made for you.

Giving the wrong person the wrong position in your life at this point creates very sticky and protracted problems later.

Saturn is currently conjunct highly fortunate fixed stars Spica and Arcturus, making relationship challenges a little easier to manage until August 17. You can read more about that here: Saturn Re-Enters a Fixed Star Safe Haven From the Heat of the Via Combusta

Because of Saturn's (relatively) beneficial position, the best time to address relational weaknesses is as soon as they come up this August.

Resolve all you can in relationships past and present. Move into and solidify new social position. Finalize decisions around relationships and social scenarios.

The North Node moves from Sagittarius into Scorpio August 30 just ahead of Saturn entering the sign of sex, death, regenerative healing, x-ray vision, and hardcore soul drive this October. Clearing slates before then is very much in our best interests.

Two New Moons in Gemini and a Venus Transit Sandwiched Between: Entering a Whole New Context

The Sun and Moon form a conjunction in earliest Gemini on May 20, marking a zero degree Gemini New Moon. This is the first of two New Moons in the sign (the second falls at 28 degrees Gemini on June 19), putting a major focus on the sign of the twins over the next two months.

Venus has also just gone retrograde in Gemini (May 15). The Sun will move out of this New Moon and into an interior conjunction with Venus Rx on June 5. Venus will be at perigee at the time of this conjunction - at the closest point to Earth in its orbit. If you've gotten into all that SuperMoon hoopla, this would be like SuperVenus. Not only that, but we also experience a major astronomical/astrological event at that time referred to as the Venus Transit. SuperDuperVenus.

The Venus Transit is, in basic terms, an eclipse of the Sun by Venus during which we on Earth will be able to see Venus moving across the face of the Sun.

Venus Transits happen in pairs - the last one occurred in June 2004 - but it will take more than 100 years for this alignment of the Sun, Venus, and Earth to form again.

Wherever Gemini falls in your natal chart is an area that is absolutely ripe for new experiences, connections, and opportunities. There is a major backdrop change going on there, and in this area of life, in particular, you will be opening into an entirely new intellectual framework.

Gemini relates to: talking! It is a sign that strives, above all, to connect. It is the sign of gathering and passing on information, networking, socializing, telephoning, instant messaging, gossiping, and generally keeping society buzzing and humming. Coming out of this May and June, we're looking for new avenues for all those things.

Communication skills are increasingly prominent, as is interacting with people with whom you share a mutual understanding and intellectual rapport.

Booty-shaking compatibility might have been enough during the Venus in Scorpio relationship cycle (now being discharged), but it's not going to cut it under Venus in Gemini.

The double dose of New Moon energy in Gemini combined with the Venus retrograde and Venus Transit in Gemini indicate the making of powerful new connections this spring and summer, connections from the soul. Gemini is a sign that enjoys intellectual stimulation and rapport, and forming new relationships, as well as enhancing existing relationships, along these lines will be increasingly important. The isolation that has been so prominent for so many during the past years starts to be alleviated with all the Gemini emphasis.

Gemini is a sign related to context and the understanding of one's own context. It can be very challenging to keep up on this considering the times of exponential change through which we are living. With these New Moons and the Venus Transit sandwiched between, we burst forward into a new understanding of our own daily context and relevance. The connections being made and the information and perspectives cross-pollinating help to enhance this understanding, particularly of how we fit within local societies and neighborhoods.

New networks will be actively formed as we enter a vast new relationship cycle infused with the potency of the Venus Transit. Conditions are right for new connections, new societies, and new associations to get off the ground, though there is a focus on the immediate, the informal, and the less structured. In addition, with the influence of Uranus in Aries, it is only while being true to ourselves and our own perspectives right down to the last, rough edge that the society we keep will feel right. There is a strong and continuing requirement to determine karass from false karass.

Coming out of these New Moons, new mental circuitry finds connection points and starts to hum, old communication patterns are shed, and there is some natural social regrouping and re-organization as we move into new intellectual and societal frequencies. New society forms according to these frequencies and what hits our ears as exactly correct for the times.

This Gemini New Moon also kicks into high gear the major influx of mutable energy in the zodiac. As of May 20, we have officially entered two months of Mutable Madness when many of the personal planets, as well as Chiron and Neptune, are in mutable signs.

From a previous post:

"“Mutable” basically means “transitional,” and stakes are being pulled up on a number of fronts as we move through major transition this spring and early summer.

A predominance of mutable energy can create chaos, ineffectiveness, and confusion, and Mars will have its work cut out for it keeping things in some semblance of practical Virgoan order. Everyone will have to keep a close eye on anxiety and stress levels within this state of flux.

With this much mutable energy at play, the goals are to stay loose, stay fluid, stay adaptable, and keep making practical progress wherever and whenever you can. Things might not go as planned, but acting and reacting keenly to subtle changes from moment-to-moment keeps us in the game."

Falling between the two Gemini New Moons (on May 20 and June 19) is an equally potent Full Moon partial lunar eclipse in Sagittarius that happens June 4, just one day prior to the beginning of the Venus Transit.

At the time of the June 4 Full Moon eclipse, the Sun will be conjunct Venus Rx in Gemini, and both bodies will oppose the Moon in Sagittarius. Mars in Virgo will form a tight t-square with these bodies. Mercury will be in Gemini. The North Node will be in Sagittarius, and the South Node will be in Gemini. Chiron and Neptune will be in Pisces. This Full Moon brings the mutable, anything-can-happen energy to a fevered pitch, as every personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) will be in mutable signs, along with Chiron and Neptune.

The second Gemini New Moon June 19 is also blisteringly potent, falling just before the summer solstice when the Sun entering Cancer will form a cardinal t-square with Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn.

Coming out of this second Gemini New Moon, we experience the solstice June 20, the first of seven exact Uranus-Pluto squares June 24, Saturn direct at 22 degrees Libra June 25, and Venus direct at 7 degrees Gemini June 27.

I don't think we could have a dull and uninteresting time over the next two months if we tried.

New Moon in Leo Conjunct Venus, the Exterior Conjunction and We Officially Head to the Venus Transit 2012

Leo New Moon Conjunct Venus July 30

Venus moved out of cardinal, yin Cancer and entered fixed, yang Leo this morning, leaving the last emotional residue of the tense, charged and hyper-disciplined Cardinal Grand Cross energy behind it.

Masculine action/aggression planet Mars enters Cancer August 3 and tightens the Grand Cross energetic strings to just shy of their breaking points yet again August 8-11 and August 24-25, becoming the final personal planet to activate this formation.

But the feminine planet of love, values and relationship Venus is currently easing the proceedings as it officially passes out of energetic range. Venus is in Leo just in time for the 7 degree New Moon in Leo July 30 (1:40 p.m. Central) and will be conjunct the Sun-Moon at that time.

This New Moon conjunct Venus really gets the creative fires burning, with a potent Dark of the Moon period through Cancer and Cardinal Grand Cross territory to fold in as fuel today and tomorrow.

We’re coming to the end of a two-year, Leo-infused cycle of creative goals and direction, spurred by the Mars in Leo retrograde December 2009 to March 2010. We received an altering of course at that time, finding deeper, newer, fresher, more effective ways to creatively direct ourselves by the guidance of our hearts.

But as Mars moves through Cardinal Grand Cross territory this August and then through Leo (September 18 - November 10) ahead of the next Mars retrograde in Virgo January 23 to April 13, 2012, we are about to be re-directed yet again down to every last pertinent detail as we work to effectively and practically apply the love in our hearts.

Old creative fires along with the last vestiges of old romantic flames burn down to ash as the Balsamic Moon moves into Leo (1:16 a.m. July 30) and then through a succession of completion aspects. The 12-hour Dark of the Moon period in Leo July 30 involves quincunx aspects to both Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn, a conjunction to Venus in Leo and a trine to Uranus Rx in Aries.

Venus is warm and happy in Leo, but it’s far from simple. The broader context is tugging, pushing, pulling and stressing us. The ghosts of old, wished-for love and old, hoped-for lovers are released here and we’re forced to rapidly adjust under the emotional discomfort of the quincunx aspect to Neptune in Pisces. The love and relationship ideals that we know cannot be, the pleasures we wished for but have not experienced, and the innocence of our hearts that has so many times been disappointed are folded into the alchemical Balsamic Leo Moon fire just before it winks out. There is some definite Dark of the Moon sadness here related to those glimmering Neptunian-Venusian love dreams that did not materialize.

The loves lost and the ones we never got to experience. The love stays. The open, innocent heart stays. But the wished-for and dreamed-of forms that did not materialize, that were never meant to be, that held only disappointment and longing are released into the mix, and as the Moon becomes new, we’re burned clear.

Our open, innocent hearts take on a new wisdom here, with deeper understanding as a result of the process remaining as our guide. A new spark is just about here. As we start the month of August – full-on Leo season – that spark lights licks of new fire which will burn bright into new loves, new creative juice and a rejuvenated, warm and sustaining fiery force that fuels us and keeps us moving, powered by love, through the sometimes tricky territory ahead.

Sun-Venus Exterior Conjunction August 16: Heading to the Venus Retrograde in Gemini and the Venus Transit 2012

Venus in Leo is heading to its exterior conjunction to the Sun August 16 (7:08 a.m.) and will remain in this conjunction into early September. At the time of the exact conjunction, Venus is at apogee, the furthest point in its orbit from Earth, on the other side of the Sun from the Earth. This Sun-Venus conjunction August 16 is a very nice marker. It is the point at which love planet Venus starts to come closer to us on Earth, heading to its interior conjunction to the Sun during its next retrograde in Gemini which marks perigee or the closest point in its orbit to Earth.

The next Venus retrograde in Gemini (May 14 to June 26, 2012) is a special one – and not just because it releases us from the Via Combusta Scorpio overlay of the previous fall 2010 Venus retrograde! The Venus retrograde through Gemini in spring 2012 marks the book end to the Venus retrograde in Gemini in May/June 2004, and both those retrogrades involve rare Venus Transits.

Venus Transits are similar to solar eclipses. They are very precise alignments of the Sun, Venus and Earth when Venus can be viewed against the Sun, traveling in orbit between the Sun and Earth. The Venus Transit in 2004 happened June 8. The Venus Transit in 2012 will happen June 5.

Venus Transits happen in pairs eight years apart, but they do not happen often. The most recent Venus Transits prior to the 2004/2012 set occurred in December 1874/1882. The next set will occur in December 2117 and 2125.

At its point of perigee next June, Venusian energy will be flooding the Earth from a much lighter-hearted sign – airy Gemini – with the strong 'backdrop change' energy of the eclipse alignment accessible to us. In Gemini, connections can finally be made. Necessary information can be passed all along the past-present-future continuum, no longer obscured by the Piscean era veils and clouded, confused, wishful thinking related to love and relationship.

The 2012 Venus retrograde in Gemini has the ability to put multiple layers to rest in much lighter and more immediate ways than the Venus retrograde through Via Combusta Scorpio/Libra. We have the ability to enter a whole new ballgame relationship-wise coming out of the Venus Transit, with old relationship patterns and cycles discharged in one fell swoop, reaching far back into history, balancing in the present moment, and setting a new and refreshing tone for relationship cycles to come as we move fully into the astrological Aquarian era.

As of the Sun-Venus conjunction August 16, we're officially on our way to this once (or rather twice) in a lifetime event.

Triple Conjunction in Leo Trine the Sagittarius North Node: New Creative Inspiration August 13 to 21

Mercury also changes signs today, entering Virgo at 12:59 p.m., the sign of its exaltation, for just a few days. It turns retrograde at 1 degree Virgo at 10:50 p.m. August 2. (The U.S. debt ceiling deadline has more than likely been set for this day so that the decision is made pre-Mercury retrograde.)

Mercury turns direct again at 18 degrees Leo August 25.

Mercury Rx re-enters Leo August 8 and will be involved in a tight triple conjunction with the Sun and Venus at the time of the Sun-Venus exterior conjunction in Leo August 16.

The Sun and Venus come together at 23 degrees Leo, and Mercury Rx will be there at 24 degrees.

This Sun-Venus-Mercury conjunction will also be in tight trine to the Sagittarius North Node at 21 degrees.

The fires of inspiration, love and creative power, newly lit at the July 30 New Moon, are stoked to blazing at the point of this triple conjunction trine North Node, burning away what has served its purpose and lighting our way on the trail up ahead. We can look forward to new applications of the loving creative force that runs through us, broadening our lives in ways that truly excite us and in ways that catalyze the unfolding of new meaning.
