Saturn Direct Brings Us Into a Period of Structural Transition

Saturn is currently grinding to a halt in the zodiac as it prepares to station direct at 9 degrees Sagittarius on August 13 (2:50 a.m. PDT).

Saturn slowing to a crawl can bring up our "Saturn lessons" in a concentrated way. We may experience temporarily heightened bouts of fear, frustration, depression, self-doubt, and insecurity (especially financial), as well as feelings of inadequacy or inferiority. All the fun stuff. We may also become aware of areas where we need to get stronger.

Saturn stations can weigh us down a bit, making responsibilities seem heavier and more difficult than they may ordinarily seem. We may feel a little trapped within the walls of our own lives, particularly in the areas related to the house where transiting Saturn is stationing in the natal chart. It may seem that progress has stopped entirely - and for a short period of time, it pretty much has!

But as Saturn shifts forward again August 13 and slowly regains speed direct throughout the rest of the month, we also get a feeling that the show is once again on the road. We've had a period of inner restructuring and sober second thought throughout the retrograde (March 25 - August 13, 2016) and are preparing to once again dig in and make some concrete progress.

After action planet Mars forms its conjunction to Saturn at 9 degrees Sagittarius on August 24, we are officially on our way. We're freer to make decisions and commitments that launch us on a new trajectory.

There may be a feeling of the torch being passed from older members of the planet (Saturn) to younger members (Mars). Or in the best case scenarios, there are new collaborations coming among the older and more experienced and the younger and more energetic.

We're all struggling out of the tail-end dregs of the astrological Piscean era together, friends.

We're Pissed Off or Fine With Things, Irritated or Content, Aggravated or Accepting. Probably All at the Same Time.

The combination of the now-loosening Venus-Mars-Neptune mutable t-square, Pluto in Capricorn stationing retrograde (April 10), Mars in Virgo stationing direct (April 14), and Mercury traipsing through the last degrees of Pisces (until April 16) is making for some highly-strung, highly-changeable, and highly-odd astro conditions.

We can go from irritation to rage to despair to all-is-right-with-the-world to a chirpy, chatty phone conversation about monumental future plans in minutes flat.

Mars stationing direct opposite Neptune in Pisces has us dreaming, kicking up all kinds of oddness, and we can wake up enraged, floating, or paralyzed under the intensity of it all. Possibly all three or more.

This combination of stations and aspects is all over the place, and though we're certainly working with tension, friction, and frustration at this point, there's a lot of give here with all the mutable energy. This provides much-appreciated grease for the wheels as Lord of the Underworld Pluto permeates the skies with its inky influence and war/aggression planet Mars stops any progress in any direction, either forward or backward.

At this point, we just have to go with the weird while sort of continuing as if things are functional. (Though I have to admit, all the internet problems I've been having over the past month have pushed me right to the brink.)

Pluto going retrograde in Capricorn provides a change in direction that brings us ever-closer to the first of the seven Uranus in Aries - Pluto in Capricorn squares, and, as of April 10, we start to feel the squeeze in earnest.

Pluto is moving backward and Uranus is moving forward, on an inevitable course toward that initial square June 24.

Venus in Gemini is crossing the South Node currently, and excessive conversation - particularly certain topics of conversation with certain people - are to be avoided. At the same time, Venus is sextile Uranus in Aries (exact April 9), and we split yet another set of relationship paradigm atoms on our way to the Venus Transit June 5. We shift from one relationship track to another repeatedly between now and then, but we have to continually choose something new.

The Sun in Aries opposes Saturn Rx in Libra April 15, and the relationship re-structuring going on has to accommodate our whole blazing selves, or it might as well be scrapped.

Keep paddling, little duckies.

Anaretic Gemini Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, and This Post is Probably Already Outdated. It's Just That Lightning-Fast, People.

Our third of five anaretic degree Full Moons is also a total lunar eclipse busting things wide open at 2:13 a.m. CT on December 21, just ahead of the Sun entering Capricorn and Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere at 5:38 p.m. that evening.

The Moon at 29 Gemini opposes the Sun at 29 Sagittarius with Mercury retrograde tightly involved at 26 Sagittarius. That opposition forms a tight mutable t-square formation with Jupiter and Uranus conjunct at 25 and 26 degrees Pisces or a mutable Grand Cross if you include soul mate asteroid Juno at 26 Virgo.

Suffice it to say, this is a lot going on. The mutable signs relate to adjustments, changes, movements, rolling with it. So you can get a feel for the fluidity, especially emotional, required to squeeze the most out of this Full Moon. We're being jostled around and pushed to a high energy point before clicking more solidly into place with our Sun in Capricorn positions conjunct Pallas Athene, the North Node and Pluto, with Mars and Ceres bringing up the rear in the sign of the seagoat.

This Full Moon has a sort of "cleaning out the carburetor" feel to me. Running on high for a short burst of time to clear the old gunk so that we'll be at our best, infused with sparkling fresh faith and inspiration for the sometimes dry, old grind of reaching-for-our-grandest-potential Capricorn within Pluto in Capricorn season. The energetic push up to 29th degree fullness brings things to this emotional high point, albeit a short, chaotic, and bizarrely changeable one under Gemini total lunar eclipse/mutable t-square conditions.

From a previous post on this series of anaretic degree Full Moons:

"On the anaretic degrees, we're distilling the energetic lessons of the entire signs.

At these anaretic Full Moons, the Sun opposite the Moon creates a point of highest pulling tension, a harmonic tightening along the polarity that tunes up the full spectrum of energies and spins off whatever is not necessary moving forward, leaving us with a new mix to play with."

What needs to be said will be said, and what needs to remain wordless wisdom will remain wordless wisdom. Knowing the difference is the Full Moon fulcrum, and here the oppositional tendencies come to 29th degree culmination in Gemini and Sagittarius.

Adding to the challenge, all this will be changing and shifting, crackling with energy in each moment, according to the broadening and shifting of our up-to-the-minute radical spiritual awareness apparent at this Full Moon square Uranus in Pisces. Things are not as they were. The old Piscean constructs, especially the "spirituality" constructs, are losing their charge. In fact, I see this Full Moon as a Grand Finale curtain call for much of the Piscean Age and New Age rhetoric and ideology - one last high before things start to peter out, including the pop 2012 furor, which will be moving forward on fumes from here.

Staying relevant, effective and true with our language and communication, both verbal and non, is the challenge here. With Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius exactly square Uranus in Pisces at the time of this lunation, beliefs and especially structured belief systems are necessarily shifting. The way people communicate their beliefs and connect through them is changing, also. There is a process of sharpening of meaning, shifting language patterns and navigating through staid and stale language constructs and catch phrases within the context of these rapidly changing Pisces-to-Aquarius conditions.

The weakening New Age spiritual hierarchy is playing the same tired memes. You can hear them underlying every conversation and every "new" insight. But, as always, New Age is on the eagle-eyed look-out for fresh energy and converts to envelop into the fold, propping up the pyramid scheme and sustaining itself into Aquarius. Watch for the rebranding underway, the creation of new ensnaring trends, the attempts to cool itself up by co-opting the so-called "darker, edgier" aspects of life on this planet and placing them within their own controlled paradigm.

"This Ain't Your Pluto in Leo's New Age."
"New Age: It's Not Just Love and Light Anymore."
"New Age. For The Discerning Spiritual Fascist."

Watching coddled, privileged, mostly white New Agers trying to wrap themselves around something other than the glazed, Neptunian reinforcement of their own controlled beliefs is good for a laugh, if nothing else.

However, differentiating from New Age beliefs and reinforcing that differentiation will continue to be necessary for anyone who does not desire to be carried along by the stolen, puffed-up energy and momentum of the Love and Light brigade...

Let me tell you. As an astrologer, with so much of the current astrology merged with New Age beliefs and so few aware of the extent of New Age embedding (neither their own nor cultural), this is beyond tricky.

There is a thread available here, stripped of rhetoric and hubris, that we can work to uncover as individuals, making the vital and sustaining connections as human beings living on this planet at this time.

This Gemini Full Moon happens conjunct the South Node at 2 degrees Cancer ahead of the South Node entering Gemini and North Node entering Sagittarius March 3. On some level, our communication and connection in this internet age have reached a peak. The interplay of ideas and information has reached critical mass, and things shift greatly on that front from March until August 2012.

We're getting booted out of some of the emotional and social reliance on this form of connection and turned down the North Node Sagittarian path of direct experiences with the big, bad world, relying on our stores of information, the connections we've made and what we've learned through the interactions as the fires of Sagittarian faith and inspiration propell us forward. This will be a refreshing shift in the long run (barring a total internet crackdown by the Global Governors), but as a Gemini Moon and cyber-astrologer, this energy shift does make me a wee bit uneasy. I'll write more about it in March, but the point of no return is reached at this Full Moon.

Soul mate asteroid Juno at 26 Virgo makes the Full Moon mutable t-square a mutable Grand Cross, and the analyzed and verballized distinctions matter. Saying what you mean and meaning what you say...while things shift and slide all around us.

A sloppy, glossed-over idea of Piscean unity doesn't cut it anymore. Under the more Aquarian overlay, our differences are actually what make us strong and recognizing, honouring and utilizing them is what makes us truly unified. The Virgoan details count in a big way to place us in the positions and within the tribes where we most fully belong.

Juno in Virgo opposes Uranus in Pisces one minute off exactly at the time of the Full Moon eclipse, and this asteroid works to ground the over-the-top Full Moon eclipse vibes, keeping attention turned to what needs to get done with this energy. It's not all chaos and madness and Dionysian celebratory humping in the forest.

The longer-term communications shift indicated by this Gemini Full Moon lunar eclipse square Uranus in Pisces brings the heightened possibility of psychic communication, non-verbal interplay and transmission, and telepathy over long distances among like souls. But the placement of Juno in Virgo, again, shows us that this is not energy to be mucked around with. We're meant to be doing something - usually quite specific somethings - with it. This is actually not a "fly wide open" time with all these squares and oppositions, though many seem to be pumping things up to that point. Boundaries that must be closely kept.

Juno in Virgo brings people and experiences into our lives to help us make the refining and grounding adjustments and effectively work with these cosmic vibes. Juno will make itself known in your life to keep you on track, drawing attention to any areas that need a little tune-up, any rough spots that need smoothing, any neglected details that could trip you up in the long-term. This is the lingering impression of the Saturn in Virgo - Uranus in Pisces opposition cycle. Remember that? How could we forget? These Virgoan tune-ups, coming through the soul mate asteroid, will be especially prevalent coming from contact with other people. Remember: this isn't soul mate as in your one and only true love. It's soul mate as in someone who compells some change, work, adjustment, refinement or improvement in you or your life. These 'soul mate' connections could be irritating as all hell...but they're necessary.

Also colouring this Full Moon eclipse is the fact that Venus is just coming out of its retrograde shadow at 13 degrees Scorpio, finishing with the last degrees of the Via Combusta on December 23. This adds to the celebratory flavour, as Venus is ready to crack into fresh, new territory, integrate the retrograde themes and morph our relationships and relationship styles accordingly.

Venus Forms a Mutable T-Square with Saturn and Jupiter-Uranus

Venus at 27 Gemini squares Jupiter at 27 Pisces early tomorrow morning, and this kicks off a fast-moving and very potent mutable T-square involving Saturn, Jupiter and Uranus.

Venus will square Saturn, currently stationing direct in Virgo, early Tuesday morning (May 18) and Uranus on the 29th degree of Pisces - two degrees past Jupiter - on Wednesday (May 19).

This is a very potent configuration over the next three days moving us ever-closer to the finale of the Saturn-Uranus opposition cycle we've been struggling with since November 2008. We're done with the exact oppositions in Virgo-Pisces and have just one more opposition to go - on the zero degrees of cardinal Aries and Libra on July 26.

With Venus in Gemini playing such a pivotal role here, even the simplest of daily interactions have big impact.

Jupiter, Uranus and Saturn are all at the tail-end of the mutable signs, providing the impetus for the final adaptation, shifts and changes we need to get us into proper position for this summer's cardinal t-squaring action and new directional force.

Any words that need to be spoken or ideas that need to be communicated to bring the Saturn-Uranus opposition cycle to a satisfying close will be coming forth now. Even the seemingly small stuff is meaningful, so listen for messages in unexpected places.

That is not to say communicating will be easy - in T-square formation, things could be tight, constricting and even painful on this front. Mercury is just now back up to full speed after a retrograde in slow-and-steady-to-the-point-of-frustration Taurus, so words aren't exactly flying off the tongue right now.

But it's important, so try your best to communicate clearly and with love. Make connections, and see what happens.

There will be some demandingly quick movement taking place over the next few days coupled with more Mercury in Taurus grounding and lulls - a tricky combination to stay on top of and one that could create some antsiness.

The Sun and Mercury are also soon heading into Gemini, but by the time they reach the end of the sign, both Jupiter and Uranus will have entered Aries. They'll square the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction at zero Aries once they enter Cancer, so this Venus-driven T-square is the last mutable one involving Saturn and Uranus. A nice milestone and one we need.

From Mutable to Cardinal T-Square

Mars in Cancer, Mercury in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn form a cardinal T-square now at the first degrees of these signs. Fresh cardinal initiations and movement...but not without fighting for it first. (Unfortunately, probably literally fighting for it on a global scale.)

This is the very, very beginning of a long series of cardinal squares we're going to be dealing with over the next six years. First Saturn in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn and later Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn. Mucho grand-scale new directions and exertion of will on a global as well as personal level. Getting these beginnings off the ground. The beginning of Aquarius...

We're doing a lot of preparatory work as Saturn transits Virgo because we have to get these new directions right.

Tomorrow afternoon, Mars, newly in Cancer, opposes uber-potent stationing Pluto in Capricorn in the first degree of the signs, and we're moulting old ways of having our emotional needs and wants met.

Pluto is making us get real here and discern the difference between an emotional need and an emotional want. Forcing us to grow up a bit more along these lines and strip down to only the necessities. This is another point where we have to process and release any hindering past-related emotional baggage to make it through the cardinal openings, this time purging through our physical bodies, desires and goals. Letting old, habitual patterns related to achieving our goals - especially our emotional security goals - drop away and getting comfortable with the new emotional reality we have stepped into post-eclipses.

We have to nurture ourselves slowly but surely through this time as we are Plutonically forced to confront outdated ways of seeking emotional security. If we go too fast, we freak out and make decisions and take actions based on the old fears coming up to be released. We have to hold our calm little centres here as deep fears rise to the surface and we're tested on our commitment levels. Listening so very closely and deeply with our body intuition to make the right moves now, discontinuing the ones that are past their usefulness.

Not only are we out of the nest at this point...the old nest is no longer even there to go back to if we so desired. The old emotional safe havens are no longer safe. We're at that scary point where we can't go back but we're fearful and confused about moving forward. Nevertheless, we have to continue making whatever small steps we can emotionally handle to move forward into that Capricorn North Node, instead of ducking back into the same old hidey holes we've relied on in the past.

The South Node is in Cancer now, and ducking back into the same old hidey holes we have previously relied on when we become emotionally fearful and insecure will just place us in an unpleasant karmic loop designed to kick us right back out to this point...beginning our Capricorn North Node responsibilities for complete soul sovereignty.

The safe haven is inside us, no matter who or what tries to tell us otherwise. The recent eclipses triggered an emotional reanchoring (that continues) to healthier points, points that will sustain us in the future. Facing and overcoming our inner fears (as well as fears we have been taught) while continuing to hold our ground will continue our progress here.

We're not alone. We're all going together with this one, anchored as we always are to our roots, our homes, our pasts, our soul families. We have that support always. Venus on the Cancer South Node reminds us of this while simultaneously loving us enough to support our North Node progress.

Moulting, moulting, moulting. And not without some Plutonic purging yuckiness. We could feel raw with all the usual Plutonic physical symptoms - feeling energetically/physically dirty or repulsive, as if there is a layer of energetic tar sitting on our skin, waves of exhaustion, aches, burning in the joints, upset stomach, etc.

This aspect could push emotions, especially emotions we have been unconscious of, to the surface. Our feelings could be extreme for the next few days.

We're going over this initial point of the Cancer - Capricorn polarity (the solstice points) to make sure our goals and ways of achieving them are in line with the grand-scale Plutonic restructuring and rebalancing taking place. Personal goals here have to take their place within that context - the goals for evolution on this planet. Working for the same ends by aligning the two.

Mercury in Libra creates the cardinal T-square and acts as mediator between the concrete-goals-in-the-public-realm evolutionary desires of Pluto in Capricorn and the more immediate Mars in Cancer personal goals for emotional security, nurturing and people and place that feel like soul home. We balance the concerns of the Cancer-Capricorn polarity now with each word we speak and each interaction we make. And this balancing is (as always with Libra) more important than it appears on a surface level. Skillful balancing here can head off the anger, viciousness, violence and meltdowns possible with a Mars-Pluto opposition. Even if those meltdowns do occur, Mercury in Libra can ensure that we don't cut to the bone and say words to each other we wish we could take back.

The fourth leg of the cardinal T-square is Aries, so the stabilizing factor in all this is us the ability to stand in who we are, no matter what. We must be ourselves fully and completely, and that's all we need be. This Mars opposition to Pluto (like the Venus opposition to Pluto last month) has ties to the opening square we experienced between Mars in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn in April. The raw, new directions we initiated there related to who we really are and what we really want in the purest sense come to a culmination here with this opposition.

Just in time for Venus to enter Leo (which it does tomorrow, as well) and we start to express that pure identity in ways that are fulfilling to us. Venus in Leo brings a playful, heart-centred expression that could also be helpful in dealing with the more tense, possible meltdown-inducing Mars opposition to Pluto.

Still Discomfort Leading to Many Shifts In The Next Week

The combination of the Leo Dark of the Moon Phase today and the pressure from that mutable T-square is a tricky little combo.

Being still and quiet and letting things wrap up of their own volition...but dealing with the antsy mutable squares and Mercurial pressure within that stillness.

Not to mention the growing desire to bust forth into a new creative cycle, exerting the power of our personal artistry and talents as we head to the Leo New Moon early tomorrow morning. This is the first New Moon after a longer than usual eclipse season with plenty of intense inner, emotional focus, so we're very ready to start a new cycle of outward expression, letting our personalities lead the way.

The mutable T-square tension continues this week as Mercury in Virgo (coming from it's conjunction to Saturn) as well as the Moon in Virgo oppose Uranus Rx in Pisces (Friday - Saturday). This is also a pre-cursor, of course, to the next Saturn-Uranus opposition coming up September 15. Wrapping our brains around the changes we're dealing with...with many more up ahead. Getting to the necessary information. Getting organized. Mental and physical tune-ups. Getting our systems prepped and ready and functioning well. We need to be mentally, physically and emotionally healthy and strong to process the energy of these times...and the changes we're dealing with. No lagging. (I started doing Pilates at home during yesterday's Mars square Uranus, and I think it's going to be very helpful with some lower back problems I have...)

Mercury entered the shadow degrees of its next retrograde just after the conjunction to Saturn in Virgo at 21 degrees on Monday. So even though Saturn in Virgo will not be revisiting the degrees it is travelling through now, we'll be going back over those degrees of Virgo with a Mercury Retrograde in September, getting a better handle on what we're experiencing now. We'll get a chance to pick up any important info and make any necessary connections then. Details, details when you're dealing with Virgo. And preparation on top of preparation.

We're heading into a very mutable week, post-New Moon in Leo tomorrow. All the personal planets and the North Node change signs. Saturn moves out of its retrograde shadow in Virgo and Pluto continues stationing direct on 0 degrees Capricorn, kicking up more business developments related to the massive Plutonic transformation our structures are undergoing. As we continue to penetrate to the core reality of hierarchical outgrowths...

Mutable T-Square Still in Full Effect

Lots of astro action today!

Mercury conjuncts Saturn in Virgo as Mars in Gemini heads to its square with Uranus Rx in Pisces tomorrow evening (8:24 MDT). The mutable T-Square is still in full effect. Stiff necks, headaches, mental overload and anxiety are still to be expected as we adjust and shift according to the changing conditions and any new information we are bringing in. Best to limit communication to only what is necessary as the universe continues to inform us about what comes next...

Saturn is just about to exit its retrograde shadow (August 22), so the things we are dealing with now pertain to wrapping up the previous two legs (decans) of Saturn in Virgo. From August 22 to October 10 we zoom through six degrees of Virgo (as much as Saturn can zoom) that won't be revisited in Saturn's next retrograde. We only get one kick at the cat with these degrees, so both Mercury and Saturn stand at the starting gate today, putting their heads together and formulating a plan about the best path forward for the most progress made.

The Moon and Venus come together in Cancer today, also, for a good dose of the feminine. Venus in Cancer has kept us back in those eclipse themes finishing the lunar-driven rinse cycle. Interactions we've had with the people in our lives have very much been coloured by those home, roots, family emotional themes and will continue to be until Venus enters Leo on August 26. We're still emotionally reconciling with the changes the future will bring and strengthening our connections to our roots to prepare.

The Sun in Leo is opposing Neptune in Aquarius today - just moving out of exact opposition with Chiron and Jupiter. The preceding oppositions are still in the energetic mix, as well. Shining our lights and putting forth our creative expressions of self in the face of the mammoth Aquarian shift. Reminding us to enjoy being ourselves as much as we can during the process.

Mars in Gemini also completes its trines to the Aquarius bodies today, trining Neptune this evening. Communication and interaction are the methods by which we are going after our goals right now, and all of it is touched by the objective vision of the future we're heading to. This trine is an easy, flowing aspect, but there could be a little more Neptunian fuzziness involved than Mars would like. Things are not as cut and dry or as easily attained when connections to Neptune/Pisces are involved. There are broader universal/spiritual goals in mind as well as our personal goals. But Mars will just have to work with it because it gets an even more challenging dose tomorrow evening as it squares Uranus in Pisces...

True To Mutable Form - I Keep Changing the Name of This Post

Today we've got a lot going on simultaneously. First, we've got yet another T-Square keeping us in check - this time a one-day-only fixed one set off by the Moon in Taurus.

The Moon in Taurus today squares the Sun in Leo (12:55 P.M. MDT) and we experience the Last Quarter Moon. This is a time when we initiate changes/movement in our lives (or decide not to) based on what we've learned in the previous stages of the moon cycle. Deep movement and changes and starting to shed old emotion and old emotional cycles.

We're still working from the third eclipse in the most recent eclipse season - the Full Moon lunar eclipse in Aquarius on August 5. The shifts we experience now are coming as a result of what we've learned/how we've grown during this longer-than-usual eclipse season - especially related to the past/future reconciliation process of the last Aquarius Full Moon.

What we've had to do to become a "global community" on planet Earth as we continue to grow in awareness of ourselves, other people, other communities, other countries, other continents, other planets, other solar systems. Our context on Earth as well as Earth's context elsewhere...

The Aquarian energy is very prominent as the bodies in Aquarius (Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune) form the third leg of the T-Square with the Moon in Taurus and the Sun in Leo.

The Sun in Leo is opposing the Aquarius bodies between now and August 17.

It has been a huge struggle to get the balance right with this Leo-Aquarius polarity. We've got some woundedness (Chiron) involved here related to the difficulty of shining our lights in the world (Leo), especially when those lights relate to a different way of doing things (Aquarius). Living from the heart and giving it our all but also having the detached objectivity necessary for living in these often bizarre and uncertain times. Not receiving the attention/recognition we would like...or having it offered to someone less talented but more mainstream palatable. Finding what is special about ourselves somewhat lost in the fray of these times we're living in. Having to defer to the larger, collective processes we're a part of. A lot of us have received a huge amount of opposition, oppression and abuse just for being ourselves and leading to a future for humanity that we knew was necessary. We've been on the outside looking in in many ways, and this has taken a toll. But we can see these themes running through other people's lives, as well. Again, the people who just can't seem to fit in are a larger group than it seems...

The fourth leg of today's fixed T-Square is Scorpio, so we have to go to our deep, dark places in order to really keep a handle on all this. Scorpio is the stabilizing leg here. Deep processing and releasing of what is no longer needed. Doing the work to let go of the old wounds (but not their lessons) while honouring ourselves for having the strength of will and the depth of character to go through it all...

This Last Quarter Moon in Taurus is leading to a New Moon at 27 degrees Leo on August 20. This late-Leo New Moon will be the starting point for a much-needed new cycle related to the fulfillment of our creative potentials. New creative projects or emergences within continuing projects. Receiving new places of prominence and recognition of our creative offerings. A fresh energy boost for self-expression and renewal on our creative paths as we struggle to live true to ourselves, come what may. A past-clearing that should allow more room for fun, joy and good times. Shaking off past expressions of self to allow for new, more vital and fulfilling ones to shine forth.

The fixed T-Square we're experiencing today is in addition, of course, to the longer-term mutable T-Square (Mars in Gemini, Mercury/Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces) in effect from August 10 - 26.

As I said in that post, Mars in Gemini trines the Aquarius bodies between squares to Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces. Multi-layered things going on. (A trine is a nice, flowing aspect between two signs of the same element. They're alike in the fundamental elemental way.)

Today, we have a nice Mars in Gemini trine to Jupiter in Aquarius to ease the square tensions a bit. Things are starting to move and flow a little better (between frustrating square checks) and hopefully we notice some progress and expansion toward our goals and future plans. Our daily interactions are getting things moving toward that vision for which we're striving. Mars in Gem will trine Chiron August 15 and Neptune in Aquarius August 17.

There are still some challenging aspects flying around, to be sure, but things are feeling a little less socked in post-eclipses. I'm feeling some tiny moments of clarity between periods of cloudiness...and some movement, although nothing concrete as of yet.

But there is also worry and anxiety being kicked up by the anticipation of the changes up ahead.

We've got a lot of shifts going on in the last 10 days of August as all the personal planets and the North/South Nodes change signs.

Saturn in Virgo also clears its retrograde shadow at that time and we head into almost six degrees of Virgo that Saturn will not be revisiting in its next retrograde. Saturn will be in these degrees (21-27) from now until early October, which I think is another indicator that things are going to move next month. Possibly more slowly than we would like (with Saturn involved in Virgo), but at this point, the right movement, no matter how incremental, is going to be a relief, I suspect.

More on all that later this month...

Mutable T-Square Influence Helping Us Make the Transitions

Mars in Gemini is moving to a closing square with Saturn in Virgo Monday at 6:16 p.m. MDT. This creates a mutable T-square with Mars in Gemini squaring both Saturn in Virgo and Uranus retrograde in Pisces.

Mars in Gemini will square Uranus in Pisces (opening square) August 18 at 8:24 p.m., so the influence of this T-square lasts for the next 10 days or so.

(Saturn and Uranus Rx are, of course, heading ever-closer to the third of their five oppositions on September 15 at 24 degrees Virgo/Pisces.)

Mutable energy is transitional, changing, adapting, so this should get some energy moving post-triple eclipses, although the movement will come as a result of these squeezing, frustrating, irritating squares.

The loosening effect of the eclipses releasing previous backdrops will be continued here as we transition to new ones.

The fourth leg of this mutable T-Square is "keeping the faith" Sagittarius. There are no bodies currently in Sadge, but the tension created by the T-square will be looking for an anchoring vibe from that sign. Keeping the candle burning in the window, holding a vibe of optimism and farsightedness to help stabilize all the nervous tension, worry and anxiety that can come with Gemini-Virgo-Pisces interactions. Sagittarius will be the wise old philosopher here, offering a steady hand and a few calming words. Tapping into that sign's best qualities will assist us with the T-square over the next 10 days. Activities/practises related to whatever house Sagittarius occupies in your birth chart should strengthen that stabilizing leg and help offset any tension overload with the other three mutable signs.

Under Mars in Gemini, we're attempting to achieve our goals through connection, communication, information-gathering and networking in our day-to-day lives. We want to get things moving in ways that interest us.

The square to Saturn in Virgo checks those desires with the understanding that we have to be mature and level-headed in our interactions with other people. Those interactions must be purposeful and necessary - possibly a bit of a drag for chatty, social Gemini. Talking for the sake of talking will be allowed only in very limited doses. We can seek stimulation but only if we don't start stuffing ourselves with mental junk food. No gossipping or shit-talking...or we'll suffer the consequences. We have to choose our information sources and the ways we interact carefully. We have to know when to make the connection and how to measure our words.

Precision is the name of the game with Saturn and Mercury in Virgo. Right application of speech and mental energy/analytical skills. Keeping our minds harnessed, working for the right aims. Only what's necessary. Mercury in Virgo disposits Mars in Gemini, so the Virgoan temperance is a strong influence. This influence is only made stronger as Mercury conjuncts Saturn at 21 Virgo on August 17.

The square to Uranus in Pisces ensures that we're keeping our ear to our spiritual insight here, not filling our heads with media and phone conversations and iPod distractions to the point that we can't hear that spiritual communication. We have to be attuned to those unexpected zaps of insight, to that "how could you have possibly known that?" stuff, especially as Uranus heads retro to its opposition with Saturn. Retrogrades offer us the chance to pick up on things we may have missed the first time around, so we have to take heed on that Piscean etheric level at the same time as we juggle and interact day-to-day - an example of the duality represented by both Gemini and Pisces.

We're in the middle of the Saturn-Uranus opposition series. Things are changing, structures are morphing, and we're in the midst of a lot of transition, heading to a new organization of things. The light and airy Mars in Gemini interactions are still light and airy, but they take place within that context.

Mars in Gemini will trine Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune, all Rx in Aquarius, August 13-17, between the squares to Saturn and Uranus, so our motivations for connection and stimulation have a bigger picture purpose at the moment. Understanding that context will help our interactions with others to hit the mark, getting the job done in an immediate way as well as for longer-term progress and shifts.

Things should continue to slowly becoming unstuck here (moving to some catalyzing astro-events in September), but there will be some mental stress, worry and anxiety as we work with the adjustments and changes required by the mutable energy.

We've also still got some Saturn in Virgo heaviness and depression to contend with, which has seemed to come into focus again with Uranus stationing and moving retrograde to that third opposition.

Baby steps...baby changes. Small adjustments bringing us through this transitional time.

Squares, Squares, Everywhere Squares

I forgot to mention in the last post that the Moon is creating a fixed T-square tonight just before it takes part in the mutable one on Sunday.

The Sun in Gemini and Saturn in Virgo exactly square each other in an hour. And when the Moon slips into Sagittarius early tomorrow morning, it will start moving to the mutable T-square at the Full Moon (June 7). (Sun Gemini, Moon Sagittarius, Saturn Virgo)

But today, the Moon in late Scorpio opposes Mercury in Taurus, trines Uranus in Pisces and then squares Neptune-Chiron-Jupiter in Aquarius, creating a fixed T-square. (Mercury Taurus, Moon Scorpio, Neptune-Chiron-Jupiter Aquarius)

It's interesting how we're getting the one-two punch with the movement of the Moon being the connector. Fixed T-square, mutable T-square within about 36 hours.

So many squares squeezing. Yeesh.

A combination of internal and external pressure for us to enjoy. teehee

Well, Yuck.

The Sun in Gemini is forming its closing square with Saturn in Virgo right now. The square will be exact at 1:10 p.m. tomorrow - June 5. The vice is tightening.

This square leads into the Full Moon in Sagittarius around noon (MT) on Sunday, June 7. The Moon at 17 degrees Sagittarius opposes the Sun at 17 Gemini, and with Saturn at 15 Virgo forms a mutable T-Square.

Uranus in Pisces at 26 degrees is another mutable influence, creating an energetic mutable Grand Cross.

Mutable energy is all about change and transition and adaptation. And all I can hope is that this Full Moon shakes something loose because the pressure of my circumstances is pretty overwhelming right now. I feel as if every way I turn is a dead end, so my instinct is to just wait out the chaos until a new direction becomes clear. But so far it hasn't. I keep making attempts in different directions, but nothing seems to be sticking. Waiting is starting to be the wrong thing to do and at the same time, I don't see a solid path forward. Yuck. I must say, I hate this phase. I've been here quite a few times in life, and it's always uncomfortable and nerve-wracking.

For me, the time leading up to a square is always the most antsy and pressure-filled. Put that in combination with an upcoming Full Moon (building emotional energy), and you've got an antsy-feeling few days.

With two Mercury-ruled signs involved in a square (Gemini and Virgo), there is bound to be mental pressure and some level of worry and anxiety. Mercury is just getting back up to speed after turning direct in Taurus (dispositing the Sun in Gemini and Saturn in Virgo), and that has created some pressure, as well. Mercury in earthy Taurus moves slower than it would like at the best of times...focussing mental energy in a very grounded way. So this retrograde in Taurus has slowed things even more and required a great deal of patience.

We're heading to the final of three squares between Mercury in Taurus and the Aquarius triple conjunction - Neptune Rx, Chiron Rx and Jupiter in Aquarius. (June 9 - 10) This should be the "getting the show on the road" square as far as concrete plans go. Mercury has retrograded, and now we're moving full-speed direct.

I wrote about the Taurus-Aquarius square themes extensively in the Saturn Direct post, and that post is still very relevant.

We're making all this "future vision" and "revolution" stuff personally meaningful, in a concrete way. Deciding what is valuable to us and making sure we're following our own vision, not getting swept up in marketing and style over substance.

Mars and Venus in Taurus will also square the Aquarius bodies (at the beginning of July), so again, the themes of the Taurus-Aquarius square continue through this month.

I'm actually really angry right now, though. I feel as if I've been patient as patient can be, and still nothing concrete. I feel as if I've done everything I could and no results. I feel short-changed, I guess. Chiron in Taurus on the MC. haha Fuck.

Anyway, no New Agey platitudes about how it's "all part of the divine plan," please. If a person can't be honest about her situation and feelings on her blog, where can she be honest about them?

Things are tough, and it just makes it worse to pretend that isn't the case.

Timeline for December's Mutable Squares and Pluto Conjunctions

A lot of squares and a lot of adjusting this month. Here is a breakdown of the mutable squares and conjunctions to Pluto in Capricorn. Check the December Astro Perspective for analysis:

Dec 4 - Mercury in Sag square Uranus in Pisces
Dec 6 - Mercury in Sag square Saturn in Virgo
Dec 10 - Sun in Sag square Uranus in Pisces
Dec 11 - Mars in Sag square Uranus in Pisces
Dec 12 - BIG DAY! Full Moon in Gemini forming mutable Grand Cross, Sun in Sagittarius square Saturn in Virgo, Mercury conjunct Pluto at 1 degree Capricorn
Dec 15 - Mars in Sag square Saturn in Virgo (final mutable square and the effect of the mutable T-Square loosens)
Dec 22 - Sun conjunct Pluto at 1 degree Capricorn
Dec 27 - New Moon in Capricorn
Dec 28 - Mars conjunct Pluto at 1 degree Capricorn

Squares are tense aspects of two very different energies having to deal with each other and work together, but astrology allows us to be forewarned and forearmed about these sometimes sticky aspects.

The conjunctions to Pluto at the beginning of Capricorn can also be difficult, but being aware that certain power struggles and authority issues can arise those days (and become explosive unless negotiated well) does a lot for us.

You can think of the planets in Sagittarius moving to conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn as being in Balsamic phase. Like the Balsamic phase of the Moon each month (or Dark of the Moon). This means that we'll be purging and shedding any remaining Sagittarian issues as the planets pass through the final degrees of Sagittarius and conjunct Pluto in Cap.

These days of ending the old phase (connected to the entire process of Pluto in Sagittarius) are Dec 11, 21 and 27.

Last Quarter Moon in Mutable T-Square Formation

Tonight, we are experiencing a very spicy, perhaps achy and ouchy Sun - Pluto square in the 28th degrees of Virgo (Sun) and Sagittarius (Pluto). This leads us into a Mutable T-Square formation and a Last Quarter Moon tomorrow night.

I've written tonnes of stuff about the squaring of Pluto in Sagittarius from Virgo planets over the last few months, but again, here we are seeing deeply embedded and often hidden beliefs, truths and philosophies (religious, cultural, and economic) coming to the surface for purging with Virgo focussing on and analyzing what is coming up.

With the Sun here, we are very much aware of this process in our conscious moment.

The big topic these days, of course, is the U.S. economic meltdown...with much more to come there once Pluto re-enters Capricorn in November.

Economics is far from a hard science. There are elements of mass psychology and cultural belief at work here, and here, as Pluto kicks up dust in its last pass through Sagittarius for 248 years, we are forced to take a hard look at the belief systems and ideologies underlying our structures - those structures (like the economy and money system) that will be on the transformational agenda of Pluto in Capricorn. Before we transform the earthy concrete, we have to understand the truth about the beliefs/ideologies that are the basis for those structures and how we set them up.

For now, we are (or are becoming) quite aware of the excess of optimism (some would call it delusion) in the capitalist "borrow/buy now, pay later" system getting a big old reality check from more grounded forces. We are starting to see the fallacies of the capitalist system more clearly...the idea that it would grow and grow without end...the idea that you can put off paying the piper inevitably...and the idea that ANY of this is healthy, functional or sustainable.

The piper's coming a-calling.

And for those of us who know Pluto's ways, we know a Band-Aid solution (government bail-out) isn't going to cut it. You have to get to the root of the problem, the root of the dysfunction and reef it out. Nothing short of complete, core-level transformation will assuage this power player. The system's rotten to the core...so right to the core we must go for the solution. Band-Aid solutions just make things worse. They just make the inevitable that much meaner. They just make Pluto ANGRY! (Not really...but they do amp up the Plutonic process.)

But as Pluto stirs up our mortal fears, we will see people clinging to the structures that have started to crumble...maybe in denial...possibly using force to hold onto dying power...definitely reluctant to face the reality of the situation and the damage that has been done.

Cripes.

Tomorrow, the final full day of Sun in Virgo, we build all day to a Last Quarter Moon in Gemini in a Mutable T-Square formation with Pluto at around 11 p.m. MST.

This means we have the Moon at 29 degrees Gemini squaring the Sun at 29 degrees Virgo (forming the LQ Moon) with Pluto at 28 degrees Sagittarius opposing the Moon and squaring the Sun.

(In effect, we have a very loose Mutable Grand Cross, as Uranus in Pisces is at 20 degrees Pisces, forming the fourth leg of the formation.)

The Last Quarter Moon is the portion of the lunar cycle where we initiate change in our lives/selves based on what we have learned and experienced during the earlier part of the cycle. This is the time where we start to let go and internally move for change, understanding what needs to die in preparation for the New Moon.

In the last degree of Gemini, in T-Square formation in the last degrees of Virgo and Sagittarius, we have a sort of Grand Finale feeling...the big push of mutable-sign change following the force of all the smaller changes dealt with in the earlier degrees. Whoooosh! The seemingly neverending work of Virgo - detail after detail, adjustment after adjustment, is coming to completion. The results of our focussed, sometimes navel-gazing, purifying and perfecting are becoming known...

All we can do now is let go and follow the momentum for change in our own lives, making the adjustments as we go toward new circumstances (especially emotional circumstances).

Monday morning (Sept. 22), the Sun enters Libra and we have the Fall Equinox. A balance point, as day and night are in perfectly equal duration.

As I said in the September Astro Perspective, the Libra energy has its work cut out for it creating any kind of balance or harmony out of this mess! But lead to that balance and harmony, it will. Or at the very least, it will attempt to lead to balance and harmony with all its ability.

Venus enters Scorpio September 23 and will rule the Libra Sun for almost it's entire transit. This adds a sort of bottom-line, no bullshit intensity to our relationships...forcing us to deal with each other in full honesty and integrity, even when dealing with the ugly stuff - unequal power dynamics, domination-subjugation themes, hidden resentments, subtle emotional and psychological abuse or power plays, betrayals.

All that fun stuff that "can't we all just get along??" Libra looooooves to deal with.

Then, September 24, Mercury goes retrograde at 22 degrees Libra. Yep. Not so fast! We're going back over everything that has gone on since September 4. This means Mercury will also be ruled by Venus in Scorpio, forcing confrontation and transformation of our relationships with others even further...bringing it out into our daily interactions. Also in the media.

Good times, kids. Good times. heh heh

Anyway, it's not all bad. We might not have the luxury of keeping it light and harmonious this Libra month...but we're doing the right thing in the long run. We're attempting to create real, soul-level harmony in full honesty and integrity. This might scare the Libra energy shitless, since the gloves will be off, but just like with anything Plutonic, it's best just to get it over with and do what has to be done. A Band-Aid solution just prolongs the dread of what's to come...which is generally not as bad as one conjures up in the mind's eye, anyway.
