Jupiter Enters Cancer at Lunar Apogee: The Wisdom of Our Pitch Blackest Emotional Experiences

Tonight at 8:40 p.m. CST, Jupiter moves from the sign of its detriment (Gemini) to the sign of its exaltation (Cancer) for a one-year stay. As Jupiter makes the ingress, it is at lunar apogee, conjunct the astrological symbol Black Moon Lilith, and this energy colours the entire year-long Jupiter transit.

The wisdom gleaned from our pitch blackest emotional experiences fills our bones like marrow. This becomes our lantern in the darkness, a year-long guiding light through the often horrifying themes and circumstances of the Pluto in Capricorn era.

We draw on the simple, nourishing wisdom of our mothers, our grandmothers, our roots, our families, our clans, our homes, our emotions, and our souls to get through this one. We draw on the wisdom of our early upbringings, particularly the difficult experiences. But we use it to advance, not to fall back. We're hurtling into Aquarius, and there's no going home again, no matter what the Cancerian nostalgia is telling you...

Black Moon Lilith is a symbol of the dark, denied feminine experience. In the cultural stories, Lilith was Adam's first wife. She refused to be his wifely subordinate and was kicked out of the Garden of Eden, exiled, because of it. Adam hooked up with Eve, who was content to be just a rib, just an offshoot of her man. And Lilith discovered that comfy, cosy society would prefer her 'out of sight, out of mind.' Truth be told, it would prefer her dead so that it didn't have to look at what she reflected, represented.

There has been a whole lot of post-post-modern mythologizing about Black Moon Lilith. To the point that it has been swaddled and stifled by the psychological takes.

You have to remember that the myths in astrology exist primarily so that we can get a handle on the energy of the points or bodies. It's about putting them into context so we can properly apply them in our lives and in our selves.

So stripping down all the myth and the layered language: Black Moon Lilith is raw, raging, volatile, marginalized, vilified. It's a caged animal screaming "fuck you" to whoever put it there. It's a trigger point with a deep reach into longstanding issues, grudges, resentments. It touches the historical mistreatment of women and the historical downplaying of feminine knowledge on this planet, in general.

It's also a point of our deepest power, creativity, and hard-won feminine know-how. It's a point where we're willing to stand alone, in our power, in our righteousness, in our marginalized understanding of things. If we tap this point correctly, harnessing the raw and wild energy surging up from its depths, it is source. It is Kali destroying maya, ripping down blinders, yanking heads out of sand, tearing phony constructs asunder. It is Kali forcing us to see, to understand, to know how it really is on this planet and how it really has been.

The state of women on this planet is abysmal. The state of the soulful on this planet is abysmal. Emotional health is in the tank in many, many respects. Our institutions and power hierarchies reinforce this, and Black Moon Lilith transiting Cancer isn't going to let us forget it.

This Black Moon Lilith point, with all its discomfort, alienation, and disturbance, is a primary source of guiding wisdom over the next year. It's our lucky horseshoe. Acknowledging its dark and often disturbing wisdom, accepting it, validating it, drawing it into the whole - this is how we fully capitalize on the blessings Jupiter would now like to bestow.

The cultural wisdom and the cultural myths have mostly been written by men, from the male point-of-view. During the transit of Jupiter in Cancer, women's wisdom and stories are in the spotlight.

Some long-denied issues are coming to the forefront this year, particularly related to mothers, mothering, nurturing, supporting, food, cooking, the nuclear family unit, home life, femininity, emotion, and soul. If we work to bring these issues into the mainstream whole, we can experience both emotional resolution and rapid expansion during Jupiter's transit of Cancer.

The mean calculation of Black Moon Lilith will transit Cancer almost as long as Jupiter will - until March 4, 2014. Both will oppose Pluto in Capricorn and square Uranus in Aries during the transits.

From a previous post:

"Black Moon Lilith in Cancer June 9, 2013 - March 4, 2014: the Dark Side of Mothering, the Nuclear Family Unit, Traditional Femininity, Head-in-Sand Denial, and Security at All Costs

The Black Moon Lilith lunar apogee (mean calculation) enters Cancer today for a nine-month stay in the sign of the crab.

With Black Moon Lilith in Cancer (June 9, 2013 to March 4, 2014) colouring the Uranus-Pluto square, we are being confronted with the dark side of the nuclear family unit, apple pie Americana, and head-in-sand denial.

Nowhere is this head-in-sand denial more apparent than in Cancer Sun nations Canada and the United States, which offer citizens false security and comfort provided by deadly force through the military and police arms of the state...

The deep, dark, denied feminine perspective strongly colours the scene.

A strong Black Moon Lilith in Cancer theme is "the feelings we're ashamed of," and nowhere is this a more prevalent theme than with mothers. Black Moon Lilith in Cancer is a symbol of the underlying feelings related to mothers, mothering, caring, nurturing, and supporting that are too dark, shocking, or upsetting to be accepted by the society at large. These are the emotions that many mothers (and supporters from both genders) are ashamed of: rage, hatred, resentment, depression, desire for freedom.

Black Moon Lilith in Cancer is mothers going to emotional extremes, crushed by the pressures of their increasingly impossible, dysfunctional, and emotionally-detrimental support positions.

Black Moon Lilith in Cancer is the vilified mother. At it's most extreme, it is the child-killing mother. It is the mother pushed to the absolute brink and beyond.

Or it's anyone who feels that way. Anyone who feels he/she can't take the bullshit for even one more day.

Black Moon Lilith in Cancer involves dark themes related to traditionally-accepted femininity, as well as aspects of femininity that are amputated to stay socially acceptable. Women's roles. Sweet and gentle. Light and congenial. Supportive and generous. June Cleaver. Mad Men. The Angel of the Household. Taking care of the men. Supporting them wordlessly in their positions of power.

Black Moon Lilith in Cancer relates to the socially-accepted role of the feminine versus the unacceptable and socially-threatening energy of the raw and wild dark feminine. This is the vilified feminine perspective, held by both men and women, that dares to consider things like feelings, soul, care for others, and emotional health and well-being in a Pluto in Capricorn business world that values none of those things - unless it can make money from them somehow.

With all this dark energy related to Cancer over the next nine months, there is a strong theme of "the tyranny of the nuclear family unit." Single people and people without children have had the preciousness of the nuclear family unit shoved down their throats for decades. The norm of it, the desirability of it, the rightness of it. And they're fed up. With the pressure to move beyond old constructs so intense, this "tyranny of the family" is going to be cracking at the seams. Areas of weakness that have been glossed over will start to crumble under ongoing pressure from radical Uranus in Aries and transformational Pluto in Capricorn."

The Sun entered Cancer June 20, and we have just moved through a summer solstice in the northern hemisphere that was at lunar apogee, conjunct Black Moon Lilith.

The Capricorn Full Moon June 23 was at perigee, meaning the Moon was at the closest point to Earth in its orbit, opposite the lunar apogee (Black Moon Lilith) in Cancer.

Black Moon Lilith energy strongly coloured our solstice, and now it strongly colours the Jupiter ingress of Cancer and subsequent transit.

Mercury goes retrograde at 23 degrees Cancer tomorrow morning, indicating a period of mental gear change until July 20. You can read the full article on that retrograde here: Mercury in Cancer Retrograde Within Cardinal T-Square: On Alert, Breaking Out of Mental Comfort Zones

Our hot, overloaded little minds under Jupiter in Gemini now get doused with some cool, refreshing water as Jupiter moves into Cancer. The planet most strongly influencing our expansion, wisdom, and cosmic blessings now shifts from Mercury (mental, verbal, intellectual, social) to the Moon (inner, emotional, soulful, silent). The Mercury retrograde through Moon-ruled Cancer marks this transition.

As Mercury moves retrograde into cardinal t-square with Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, many sensitive topics will be touched, and we also wrap our minds around the energy shift indicated by Jupiter's ingress of Cancer.

Jupiter now forms a Grand Water Trine with Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces (exact July 17/18), which eases the challenge and complexity of this year and of the cardinal t-squares and Grand Crosses that will be experienced with Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn.

YES.

I love how well you put your energy into tapping into the zeitgeist and articulating what is being felt at a soul level. In an odd coincidence for me, I read the above sentence and the rest of your description of Black Moon Lilith after trying to become more familiar with its place in my chart. I'm 12th house heavy; asteroid Lilith is in Aries/12th conjunct 12th/Aries Sun, BML in 12th/Aries conjunct asteroid Lilith and trine Sadge Uranus. I dont know if that makes me a Lilith-type, but I can definitely feel its influence in the current atmosphere, though I didn't know that's what it was until I read your article.

It does seem only some are noticing these energies and how things are unfolding around us. It seems some are blithely unaware of the harsh curve we are going around. Is life really that simple for them? They scare me, tbh.

Many, many thanks for sharing your insights! :)

Perfect description of this evening, when people were riveted to the thrilling filibuster on the Texas house floor. If this is Black Moon Lilith, I love her.

Thank you for this piece, dear Willow; thank you for never being afraid to face up to and examine the dark side of the moon. (but don't know if my comment will make it - what the heck's that second, robot-defeating, word..?)

2:15Am Pacific Time, and I'm reading that Sen. Wendy Davis has succeeded in her filibuster to block the Texas abortion bill. It would have closed 37 out of 42 clinics in the state. The rules required that she remain standing the entire time: no food, no water, no bathroom breaks, no leaning on the podium. She had to stand on her feet. And she did.

As midnight approached, the Republicans rushed a vote through, and they then claimed victory. But there were hundreds of thousands of people watching, and Twitter pictures proved that the vote happened after midnight. Nevertheless, someone in the Senate tried to alter the records to make it appear that the vote was valid.

It's not clear what happened next, but the Governor apparently has now stated that the time stamps prove the vote was too late.

We'll have to watch the media coverage and see what happens next. Clearly the Republicans can get this passed in Texas, but it's just as clear that the people are outraged at their arrogant move to govern without public consent. The Senators' attempt to change the official time records, just adds insult to injury.

I happened upon your latest post just after I read this story. And I'm just stunned:

"It's a trigger point with a deep reach into longstanding issues, grudges, resentments. It touches the historical mistreatment of women and the historical downplaying of feminine knowledge on this planet, in general.

It's also a point of our deepest power, creativity, and hard-won feminine know-how. It's a point where we're willing to stand alone, in our power..."

Thanks very much for doing this work, Willow. You're hearing the music of the spheres, and sharing it with us.

Odd as it may seem, this post brings to mind the controversy surrounding Paula Deen. To my admittedly still "green" understanding of astrology, it's a subtle current in the waters of BML in Cancer. To my mind, Deen is a maternal figure, what with the food and the folksy manner (butter, y'all!), but the issue of the word she supposedly uttered (as if no one else has ever done so) is that's it's a wounding word that signifies all things vilified by society, undesirable, untouchable, rejected, now a source of shame, etc. The debate is, in some senses, a mountain being made of a molehill and probably involves character assassination by the person who brought the lawsuit originally, but it speaks to me of a collective wound forcing its way up from the depths, to be acknowledged.

Willow, even though this action only applies to US readers at this time, I'd like to share an action people can take to speak out on the plan to increase levels of Monsanto's chemical glyphosate being dumped into our food supply and waters.

ww.naturalnews.com/040842_glyphosate_epa_regulations_contamination_levels.html

It says: "Public comments are due by July 1 to object to new EPA regulations which are already in place, allowing glyphosate contamination of food crops, edible oils and waterways at concentrations which are thousands of times higher than the amount needed to cause cancer."

Paula Deen = perfect example of BML in Cancer. Underbelly of racism + Southern home cooking just like Mama did it (or like people dreamed Mama did it). Conjunct Jupiter, so her true beliefs are coming to the forefront in a big way, and it's pretty dark.

Oh, wow, Anons, I had no idea the Texas abortion bill was even on the docket!

That is Black Moon Lilith in action if ever there was, and you can see how crucial it is that this energy come to the forefront within the institutions as they exist RIGHT NOW.

We're in scary, scary times for women. (And for everyone.) Lot's of backsliding with Pluto in Capricorn. The nefarious and hellish stranglehold on power of the conservative traditionals. And reproductive rights are under major attack.

Wendy Davis, you are my BML hero!

Makes me tear up. These times are so dicey. But we have opportunities to throw the shitbags back on their heels. And Wendy Davis did it! She did what any of us would have done if we had had that position of power.

Here's the link for anyone who didn't know this was going down:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/25/texas-senator-wendy-davis-filibuster-abortion

Thanks for commenting about this, guys. I'm often in the astrology and don't see everything going on in the media that pertains. But Wendy Davis and Paula Deen are both brilliant examples.

And Liz - I really dislike those robot words, too! I can rarely read the first few sets.

I wish I didn't have to do that, but the number of spam comments I would get if I took that filter off would be so horribly annoying.

Speaking of long denied issues coming to the forefront, yesterday there were rallys held in honor of Leonard Peltier. Native American issues are all but neglected by any media outlets, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some news channels picked this up.

His statement seemed very fitting of Jupiter in Cancer to me. :)

" Single people and people without children have had the preciousness of the nuclear family unit shoved down their throats for decades. The norm of it, the desirability of it, the rightness of it. And they're fed up."

Oh HELL yeah!!

I experienced this recently with my siblings, trying to plan a birthday party for their kids. I am the dutiful auntie with no kids of my own, but I do actually have a life of my own.

My sister and I have been butting heads on this stuff lately - she is on the side of the "self-sacrificing" fence. Fed up, burned out by her demanding career and being the over-achiever she's always been - over-schedules and manages the lives of her 2 young kids (her husband is a good guy, helpful, but she's definitely burned out).

I know a few women like me, without kids, single (or in the dating realm) who are sorta fed up with the whole idea that you are somehow "less" whole if you don't have kids therefore don't know the meaning of sacrifice and hard work.

Jupiter is crawling through my natal 12th now, dredging up (expanding!) all the crap I always seem to want to hold my tongue about. Saturn transiting my 4th - helloooo boundaries!.

Learning how to say "no" without regret or guilt.

Could you help me with your interpretation of the BML? Lately, I have come upon an inner controversy over which Lilith to use in reading charts - The Mean Lilith or the True Lilith? The only logical answer I can see is that the True or Oscillating Lilith is the one to follow. Why? Because Lilith is the raw feminine rage. Adam and God did not like that, so they tried to subdue the primal energies and create Eve. If you average out or take the mean measurement of the apogee of the moon, you smooth out the irregularities and inconsistencies, in order to get something much more tame. Trying to tame Lilith and to expect her to conform to even, predictable behavior is simply what Adam and God sought to do. For this reason, I follow the transits of the True Black Moon Lilith, and not the Mean Lilith. The only time I use the Mean Lilith is when some planet is caught up in between them. I would love to hear your opinion.

I use whichever one is talking to me at the time.
